At 10 minutes after 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, the 10th annual “A Tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald” will take place at the Brickyard Brewing Company, 436 Center St., Lewiston. Admission is $10 for the general public, or free for LCA members.

Hosted by artist and Edmund Fitzgerald enthusiast Tom Asklar, the event will commemorate the 48th anniversary of the American Great Lakes freighter that sank in a Lake Superior storm on Nov. 10, 1975, resulting in the loss of the entire crew of 29.

The program will include:

√ A brief presentation explaining the ship’s history, the timeline of the tragedy, and theories of its demise.

√ A tolling of the bell honoring each of the crew members.

√ Models of the Edmund Fitzgerald by John Asklar, and “Commodore” Justin Higner, founder of Higner Maritime Artworks.

√ Jim Rankin, sailor, will provide a bagpipe tribute.

√ This year, musician Gordon Lightfoot, who passed away on May 1, will be honored. Lightfoot’s 1976 song, “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” is one of the central components and inspiration behind this annual event.

√ An international barbershop quartet, with a maritime connection, will perform a vocal tribute.

√ Music from the Fitz era will be performed by Bruce Wojick, Jamie Holka, Dave Thurman and special guest Jeremy Hoyle, lead singer of Strictly Hip.

√ French onion soup.

√ The BBC will offer selections from its menu, as well as a buffet; “Gitchegumee,” a BBC golden lager beer tribute, will also be available for toasting.

Proceeds benefit Lewiston Council on the Arts.
