The Niagara County Center for Economic Development will host a brownfield cleanup assistance virtual business workshop from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12. The event is free, but registration is required.

Participants in this virtual workshop will learn about the funding opportunities available for remediation and redevelopment of brownfield sites. The discussion will cover tax credits, loans, grant and other financial incentives available to help potential investors with cleanup and development of a brownfield. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, National Grid and Niagara County will all be discussing their different programs. This workshop is designed for developers, Realtors, environmental consultants, bankers and anyone interested in how to finance a brownfields project.

“Many residents are always surprised to hear that there is a lack of available sites ready for economic development in our community, but that is indeed the case,” Niagara County Economic Development Commissioner Mike Casale said. “The fact is we have too many properties that are brownfields that cannot be put back to productive use without remediation. This seminar will show potential investors in these properties the different programs available to getting that remediation done.”
