The North Tonawanda City Market, which was recently named the No. 1 best farmers market in the U.S., will host a grand celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday in recognition of the national honor during a Customer Appreciation Day.

The NT City Market is located at 310 Robinson St.

“Words cannot express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the wonderful people of Western New York for making us the No. 1 Farmers Market in America,” said NT Market Manager Chris Delprince.

All of WNY is invited to come for a day of fun, shopping and entertainment. Free refreshments provided by Senek Farms, Tower Orchards, Dukes Donuts and Ko’s Kettle Corn include apple cider, apple cider doughnuts, apples and kettle corn, with live music from the Good News Band and more.

There will also be a brief program and special recognitions beginning at 11 a.m. A check presentation will also be made to the North Tonawanda Athletic Association and WNY Heroes, the two charities that were the recipients from the proceeds of the inaugural NT Corn Fest held in August.

“The outpouring show of support demonstrated to the entire country that the North Tonawanda City Market is truly a very special experience to behold,” North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec said.

Special stickers saying “I shop at the #1 Farmers Market in America,” along with bumper stickers from the American Farmland Trust, will also be given away at Saturday’s celebration.

Sponsored by the American Farmland Trust-Farmers Market Coalition, the contest began June 20 and ended Sept. 18. The 15th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration showcases the essential markets across the nation making a difference for farmers, ranchers and communities.

A letter received by Delprince from the American Farmland Trust read: “Congratulations! I’m excited to inform you that with 18,326 votes North Tonawanda City Market has placed No. 1 in the nation, No. 1 in the Northeast region and No. 1 in New York. The 15th annual America’s Farmers Market Celebration, presented by American Farmland Trust (AFT) and Farmers Market Coalition (FMC) was a huge success, with over 2,000 markets participating. Thank you for an amazing year.”

Delprince said, “The excitement that this competition created was something like I have never seen before at our farmers market. From the farmers, vendors, community, businesses and people both young and old, everyone was all on board. As the market manager, for me it was all about the creation of a tremendous marketing opportunity that would generate great exposure for the market.”

In addition to bragging rights, the NT City Market has won cash prizes, a gift box of merchandise, and complimentary memberships to AFT and FMC, for being named one of America’s favorite farmers markets of 2023.
