Saturday, Sept. 30; closure to accommodate emergency road repairs on south access road

The fishing pier at the base of the New York Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant will be closed Saturday, Sept. 30, while NYPA crews work on the south access road and sidewalk.

A press release stated, “Recently, during annual drain maintenance, NYPA crews discovered severe erosion conditions on the south access road that need to be promptly addressed to ensure reliable, safe access for the public, NYPA staff and contractors. In addition to providing access to the fishing pier, the south access road is critical to efficient NYPA operations and ongoing projects including the billion-dollar ‘Next Generation Niagara’ work. This emergent work needs to be accomplished before the arrival of wintry weather conditions.

“NYPA recognizes that this is prime fishing season for the pier at the base of the Robert Moses Dam and has opted to address the issue all at once, rather than risk additional safety concerns by spanning the work and road closures over time.”

The road access will resume Sunday, Oct. 1, but sidewalk access is expected to remain closed for a longer period.
