Funds relief for local pediatric cancer warriors

Sophia Brielle Benintende of Williamsville was a fierce, philanthropic 9-year-old girl who bravely fought an aggressive and rare type of cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Sophia passed away on May 9, after an extraordinarily courageous two-year battle. Her passion for helping others continues to live on through her nonprofit pediatric cancer organization, Sophia the Fierce Inc.

Sophia loved many things. She loved being with her family and friends, camping, the Buffalo Bills, Halloween, Christmas and mostly giving back. Halloween was one of Sophia’s very favorite holidays so, in her memory, the first ever Sophia the Fierce “Silent Disco Halloween Spectacular,” presented by Western New York Dental Group, will take place Friday, Oct. 27, at Sto Lat, 4475 Transit Road, Buffalo. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75, and all proceeds from the event will benefit Sophia the Fierce, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is threefold: respite, research and relief for children battling cancer and their families.

Sophia dreamed of making the world a little brighter for families in their darkest days by providing opportunities to make lasting memories through private outdoor escapes, giving them time and space to connect, unwind and adventure. In addition, Sophia the Fierce is determined to help find the cures these kids deserve by funding research initiatives, as well as providing relief through financial assistance to families in need.

The Sophia the Fierce “Silent Disco Halloween Spectacular” is for ages 21-plus and will feature the one and only Se2 Silent Disco, a night of food, drinks, costume contests, bobbing for gift cards, premier basket raffles, 50/50 raffles, a glow party (including glow in the dark cotton candy) and photo booth.
