The Grand Island Fire Co. held a recruitment event on Sept. 16 in front of Tops Friendly Markets. Zach Bernfeld, one of the volunteers at the event, said people should consider joining the fire company because “It’s good to help your community. You get free training. You can go through a bunch of fire classes and become an EMT or a paramedic, if you’d like. You can become a cadet at 16 and a regular member at 18.”
