Benches added to historic Lewiston Village cemetery

A dedication ceremony took place Sunday in the Oakwood section of the historic Lewiston Village Cemetery behind First Presbyterian Church. Two granite benches were recently added to the garden and surround the potter’s field plaque. The first was a gift from the Rev. Dr. Joyce Sirianni in honor of all Lewiston veterans who have served in all branches of the military – past, present and future. The second was a gift of Joan Sheusi in memory of her late mother, Berniece Dominick, who passed away at age 103 in 2022. Berniece was the oldest resident of Lewiston at the time.

Village of Lewiston Mayor Anne Welch pinch-hit for Historian Russ Piper, who was unable to attend due to an injury.

She said, “Russ has worked tirelessly as our caretaker of this cemetery, and he is the reason why we are here today for the dedication of these beautiful benches.

“Thanks to Pastor Sirianni, Joan Sheusi, Lee Simonson and Bill Westadt for their generous donation for the purchase of these benches. They are a nice addition to the cemetery where you can rest – but not rest in peace!”
