Trustees in the Village of Lewiston approved Halloween hours and a new format for the ever-growing “Treat or Treat on Center Street” during Tuesday’s work session.

As per tradition, trick-or-treating will take place from 4-8 p.m. on Halloween, taking place this year on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

“Trick or Treat on Center Street” – a newer event that has become a favorite with families and merchants – was approved for noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. To better accommodate children, Center Street will be closed from Seventh to Fourth streets during this time frame.

Citing the benefits of a safer environment for the trick-or-treaters, Trustee Dan Gibson called the street closing a “great idea.”

Deputy Mayor Vic Eydt said, “We talked about that last year,” upon seeing the size of the crowds walking along the main roadway and crossing into Marilyn Toohey Park at the Red Brick Municipal Building for additional Village of Lewiston Recreation Department-led activities.

This Halloween-themed event also includes dance performances inside Hennepin Park.

•Trustees also approved the Lewiston Garden Club’s facilities use request to host the 2024 Lewiston GardenFest along Center Street on June 15-16.

WJBT Meeting Canceled

A special meeting to review the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours existing 40-year contract with the Village of Lewiston was “canceled until further notice.”

The Village Board was expected to call the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Wednesday, vote to enter into executive session to discuss logistics, and then return back to a public forum.

WJBT leases waterfront space from the municipality for the operation of a whitewater tour business.

President John Kinney’s request to create a new docking system along the south seawall is under review and prompted the board’s interest in reviewing the WJBT contract.
