Best-selling author Lorenzo Carcaterra returns to Wilson for library event

Carcaterra will discuss his new book, ‘Nonna Maria: The Case of the Stolen Necklace,’ and the importance of supporting libraries

Lorenzo Carcaterra, best-selling author of more than 14 books, will return to Wilson at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, appearing at Sunset Grill in Wilson.

The popular author is a former writer/producer for “Law & Order” and was managing editor of the CBS series “Top Cops,” during its five-season run. A former reporter for the New York Daily News, he has written for National Geographic Traveler, The New York Times Sunday Magazine and People Magazine, among others.

Carcaterra is the author of “A Safe Place,” “Sleepers,” “Apaches,” “Gangsters,” “Street Boys,” “Paradise City,” “Chasers,” “Midnight Angels,” “The Wolf,” “Tin Badges,” “Payback,” “Three Dreamers” and “Nonna Maria and the Case of the Missing Bride.”

At the Sunset Grill event, Carcaterra will discuss his new book, “Nonna Maria: The Case of the Stolen Necklace,” his second book in the “Nonna Maria” series, once again set in Italy at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, on the island of Ischia.

The “Evening with Lorenzo Carcaterra,” sponsored by Sevenson Environmental Services and presented by the Wilson Community Library board of trustees, along with The Friends of the Wilson Library, will also serve as an official launch of the Wilson Community Library’s “Open Book” fundraising campaign, which will run through Oct. 31.

Marge Clark, former library director, past board member and an active member of the Friends of the Library, is chair of the event. Niagara University graduate, actor, singer and former Miss Western NY Madalyn Teal will sing popular soprano aria O Mio Babbino Caro to open the evening.

Jessica Elia, owner of Jessy Lee’s Antiques and a specialist in vintage and antique jewelry, is providing a special necklace to be raffled off at the end of the evening. To be part of the drawing, anyone who makes a donation to the Wilson Community Library that evening will be eligible to participate in the drawing.

Thanks to a New York state grant, the Wilson Library recently completed a major expansion and redesign. The goal of the “Open Book” campaign is to raise funds to ensure that the successful programming the library currently offers to the community continues to expand and grow.

Wilson Community Library Director Meghan Brauer, who oversaw much of the construction and renovation of the library over the past three years, said, “We are so proud of our library and so excited to deliver more programs for children, teens and adults. We have had an incredible response to our programs, and I believe that is because we are staying true to our mission, being a library that serves the needs of our community.”

Carcaterra praised the Wilson Library in the acknowledgment section of his new book. He wrote, “I wish to thank the folks who embraced Nonna Maria and passed that love on to friends and neighbors. Among them: The wonderful folks in Wilson, New York – the community library in that beautiful town should be a model for all others.”
