Participants who complete program will receive certificate of achievement

New York State Sen. Sean Ryan announced his office is now accepting submissions for the New York State Senate’s 2023 summer reading program.

Children in New York’s 61st Senate District who read three books by the end of the summer are eligible to receive a certificate of achievement from Ryan. Parents and guardians can help their children record their summer reading and submit their information at nyread.com. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Sept. 1.

New York state hosts the annual summer reading program in collaboration with state libraries and Scholastic. For more information about the benefits of summer reading, visit summerreadingnys.org or see Scholastic’s Kids and Families Reading Report.

Ryan said, “We all know that reading is a fun pastime for children of all ages, but studies have shown that kids who read throughout the summer see significant academic and mental health benefits, as well. Encouraging summer reading is also a great way to keep kids academically engaged from the end of one school year to the beginning of the next. I encourage every family in Western New York to share your kids’ summer reading list and be part of this great program!”
