AFL/CIO Niagara/Orleans Central Labor Council awards scholarships

The board of the AFL/CIO Niagara/Orleans Central Labor Council has announced its scholarship winners following the 39th annual scholarship presentation.

A press release stated, “We handed out three $1,000 scholarships, one going to a high school student going on to college, one to a student who is continuing their education, and one to a student that is enrolled in an apprenticeship program.”

It added, “The Labor Council truly believes in helping today’s youth with giving them an opportunity for a better future. We are always working to create a path of prosperity for the next generation. That why we give these scholarships out every year.

“Also, we would like to thank our sponsors this year: Lewis & Lewis P. C and National Income Life.”

Brielle Lum was presented the Niagara Orleans Labor Council Scholarship. She graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School. Brielle plans on attending Buffalo State University and getting a degree in childhood education. USW Local 9434 Union was her sponsor.

Brady Harrington was presented with Niagara Orleans Labor Council’s Presidents Scholarship. He’s attending Suny Alfred State College after graduating from Newfane High School. Harrington plans on getting a degree in forensics science technology. UAW Local 686Union was his sponsor.

Kierson Skobjak was presented with the Niagara Orleans Labor Council’s Russell Quarantello, Apprentice Scholarship. He graduated from Wilson High School and plans to attend Niagara Community College to earn a degree in welding technology. The Wilson Teachers Association Local 03-170 union was his sponsor.
