'Family FriYay!, several outdoor activities mark official start to summer at Buffalo Waterfront

As summer officially kicks off this week, Be Our Guest, a subsidiary of Rich Entertainment Group, will host “Family FriYay!” among other fun outdoor activities at the Buffalo Waterfront.

“Family FriYay!” will feature “Free Play Friday” activities with Explore & More, a kids activity zone sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY, interactive boat building with the Buffalo Maritime Center at the Longshed, and ice cream specials at Clinton’s Dish. Plus, for each adult ticket purchased for Buffalo Heritage Carousel, one child rides free.

“Family FriYay!” will run weekly from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays from June 23 through Aug. 25, with Explore & More activities available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We invite families to enjoy what may be one of their first days of summer break here at Canalside for a fun afternoon,” said Lauren Moloney Ford, general manager for Buffalo Waterfront. “With the wide range of programming offered throughout the summer at the Buffalo Waterfront, there’s something for every Western New Yorker and out-of-town visitor to appreciate.”

“Family FriYay!” joins more than 100 events and programs at Canalside and the Outer Harbor this summer. This weekend features everyday summer fun at both waterfront locations, including kayak rentals, water bikes and Buffalo boat tours, plus the NYS Craft Brewers Festival and SABAH’s Kickstock fundraiser.

Additional upcoming programs and events include:

√ EPIC’s summer literacy program held every Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the Pierce Lawn at Canalside. The program runs weekly from June 28 through Aug. 30.

√ Creators at Sunset, at Canalside’s boardwalk on July 7 and Aug. 18 from 6-10 p.m. Sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY and Upstate Honda Dealers, this new event features local artists and vendors, live music and entertainment, food trucks and beautiful sunset views.

√ A ComedySportz series on Canalside’s Great Lawn to be held June 27, July 13, July 27 and Aug. 10 from 7-8 p.m. Two comedy teams will compete, playing improv scenes, songs and games for points awarded by the audience. The high-energy show, where comedy is played as a sport, is appropriate for people of all ages.

√ The Sounds of Buffalo Live Music Series – a collaboration between Buffalo Music Club and Buffalo Waterfront at the Wilkeson Pointe Beer Garden. Presented by Hartman’s Distilling, with support from Upstate Honda Dealers, this series will feature a different musical act on the following dates throughout the summer: June 30, July 21, Aug. 19 and Sept. 1.

√ “Fitness in the Parks,” sponsored by Independent Health, which will continue with free yoga classes at the Outer Harbor, and a new walking group leaving from Wilkeson Pointe at 1:30 p.m. Fridays. 

√ “Fitness at Canalside,” sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY, offering a range of classes, including specialty classes like goat yoga, biking on the boardwalk, fitness cruises and salsa classes.
