Federal relief provided in CARES Act approved by Congress
Congressman Brian Higgins announced federal funding to safeguard residents in low-income housing during the public health crisis. The CARES Act, approved in the House of Representatives on March 27, included supplemental public housing operating funds to support measures to respond to the coronavirus pandemic in public housing.

Higgins said, “These additional resources will help local housing authorities cover the additional costs associated with maximizing safety measures in living spaces.”

Recognizing the financial strain on tenants, the CARES Act also imposed a 120-day moratorium, beginning March 27, on evictions, fees and penalties related to nonpayment of rent.
