In order to aid the nearly 300 Western New York students displaced by the recent nationwide closing of ITT Technical Institute and its Getzville location, SUNY Erie Community College will offer additional admissions assistance for those looking to continue their college education through ECC programs similar to those at ITT.

"As a regional leader in career-focused education, ECC has an obligation to help these displaced students fulfill their educational and professional goals," ECC President Jack Quinn said. "Not only can we offer these students the opportunity to transfer many of their college credits into similar programs at our three campuses, but we can do it with tuition that's affordable on any budget."

Through its new webpage at www.ecc.edu/ITT/, students can first review the community college's more than 100 degree and certificate programs, request their ITT transcripts, apply to ECC, and gain advisement, all in one visit. Once there, students will find such programs as criminal justice, electrical engineering technology and information technology compatible with its ITT counterparts, as well as many other programs that can absorb transferable credits.

For those students looking for in-person assistance, all three ECC admissions offices - City Campus in Buffalo (121 Ellicott St.), North Campus in Williamsville (6205 Main St.) and South Campus (4041 Southwestern Blvd.) - have allotted personnel to direct students through the process of enrollment and transferring credits, as well as toward additional services in financial aid and individual assessment via the college's experienced faculty.

"This is an unfortunate situation, but we at ECC are ready and willing to assist these students in any way we can," Quinn said. "Our college community specializes in helping those across the region start, restart and redirect their education. And though this might qualify as a redirection, we certainly have the programs to keep former ITT enrollees on the right career path."
