Newly signed to Capitol Records and I.R.S. Nashville

2015 has begun well for Grand Island singer-songwriter Marc Scibilia.

Sunday night, Scibilia was featured in a Super Bowl commercial as his take on the Woody Guthrie song "This Land Is Your Land" played during a high-profile, 90-second spot for the new Jeep Renegade campaign branded "Beautiful Lands." The Chrysler brand looked at a host of artists to perform the song and Scibilia won the day with his haunting version of the song.

As he told the Tennessean of tackling the song, "It feels like it really resonates in 2015. I had to wrap my head around the emotion, and I tried to capture some of the darkness in my recording."

To do so, Scibilia made a bold choice. On the refrain, "This land was made for you and me," he decided to play a minor chord, giving the song an air of uncertainty. "I kept thinking, 'Should I just do the straight-ahead campfire sort of thing?' " he recalled with a laugh. "But I just felt like my voice and the lyrics really wanted it to have an edge."

After securing the spot, Scibilia had one more thing to do to truly enjoy it: Buy a television to watch the game, which he did Sunday afternoon.

You can watch the commercial HERE and check out more on the campaign HERE. Scibilia also launched a live performance video of "This Land Is Your Land" on his website HERE and made a version of the song commercially available Sunday night HERE.

In addition, Scibilia is one of the first artists signed to the new I.R.S. Nashville imprint under Capitol Records.

"Marc Scibilia has every skill necessary to be a major star," said John Grady, president of I.R.S. "I can't wait to bring his music to the world."

Scibilia has recently finished recording his debut LP with the critically acclaimed artist and producer Butch Walker (Pink, Fall Out Boy, Gavin DeGraw, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban), which will be released later this year. You can get a sneak peak now, as Scibilia launched a lyric video for the first single "Wide Open Arms" on his website Sunday night, as well.
