Dr. Debra Colley earns Community Leader Award in Education

Dr. Debra Colley, dean of Niagara University's College Education, recently received the Community Leader Award in Education from the National Federation of Just Communities of Western New York. She was recognized during the NFJC's annual awards luncheon at the Buffalo Convention Center.

The Community Leaders Awards recognize individuals/organizations in Western New York who have made significant contributions to the region through involvement in volunteer activities and/or their special achievements in specific areas of community and professional life. These individuals/organizations exemplify the NFJC core mission of promoting goodwill, understanding, respect and trust.

Colley has served as dean of Niagara University's College of Education since August 1999. Before joining NU, she held leadership positions in the New York State Education Department, serving in both the office of higher education and the office of vocational and education services for individuals with disabilities.

Colley holds a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College and master's and doctoral degrees from the University at Buffalo.

Niagara University's College of Education holds Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (formerly NCATE) accreditation in the U.S., Ministerial Consent through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in the Province of Ontario, and accreditation through the Ontario College of Teachers. Niagara University has had a strong presence in Ontario for the past four decades, educating Canadian students both on its New York campus and at various sites in the greater Toronto region.
