Organizers of the Mighty Niagara Half Marathon and Hospice Dash 5K to benefit Niagara Hospice are expecting one of the largest turnouts yet when the event kicks off at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Artpark.

Race Chairman Paul Beatty Jr. said more than 2,000 participants and 100 teams are registered. Runners will come from as far as England, as well as from all over Canada and the U.S., including California, Montana, Idaho, Iowa, Florida, Texas, Virginia, Maine, Colorado, Texas and Washington.

The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon starts at Artpark and continues along the Niagara River to the grounds of Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown, and then along the lake shore to Porter on the Lake Park on Dietz Road. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. at Porter on the Lake Park. Both races will conclude at the same finish line in the park.

Beatty said bands would be stationed throughout the half marathon from points in Lewiston to Porter on the Lake. A post-race party is expected to get underway at 11 a.m. at Porter on the Lake featuring Strictly Hip, food trucks, beer and refreshments.

Both events fully benefit Niagara Hospice with no proceeds going to outside race organizers.
