Peach Festival recipe contest, parade offer great prizes to applicants

The Niagara County Peach Festival, Sept. 5-7, is only three weeks away. Make sure you are prepared for one of the area's most highly anticipated events of the year.

Niagara County Community College Culinary Institute's Peach Recipe Taste-Off is accepting recipe submissions until Friday, Aug. 25. Original recipes can be sent to: Peach Festival Taste-Off/ 310 Niagara St./Niagara Falls, New York 14303.

Please specify whether the recipe is for the "cake/pie" category or "all other desserts."

On Friday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. finalists will display their desserts in the Peach Tent on the festival grounds in Academy Park, Lewiston. Featured will be a taste-off.

Prizes include dinner certificates, Niagara University hockey or basketball tickets, DiCamillo Bakery's cookies, Modern Corp. beverage containers and movie passes. The taste-off winner will receive a $200 gift card and the top ten entries will receive gift bags.

Save the date to participate in the annual Lewiston Kiwanis Peach Festival Parade, Saturday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m.

Jerald I. Wolfgang, chair of the annual Peach Festival Parade, is accepting parade entries until Saturday, Aug. 30.

The parade will begin at the Village of Lewiston Red Brick Municipal Building, 145 N. Fourth St., and proceed up Center Street to Academy Park in Lewiston.

Cash prizes of more than $2,000 and trophies will be awarded to the outstanding school bands, senior bands, majorette units, fire companies, floats, drill teams, color guards, floats and more, at 1 p.m. that day on the Academy Park stage.
