Candidates stand for conservative principles

The Niagara County Conservative Party has unanimously endorsed Village of Lewiston resident Regina Scibilia Cecconi for the office of Lewiston town clerk, and Sanborn resident William Conrad for the Lewiston Town Board, party leaders announced.

Both candidates will appear on the Conservative Party line for the Nov. 4 general election.

"These individuals are newcomers to Lewiston town government and best represent local conservative principles," said Niagara County Conservative Party Chairman Daniel Weiss.

"Our endorsed clerk candidate, Regina Cecconi, is a member of the National Rifle Association, has publicly spoken out against the SAFE Act, and is committed to its repeal," Weiss said.

Cecconi accepted the endorsement, saying, "I am honored to have received the full confidence and support of the Niagara County Conservative Party. Lewiston's hard-working families deserve better access to government services, which means Saturday business hours, a friendlier atmosphere and online credit card payments."

A graduate of Niagara Catholic High School, Cecconi received a bachelor's degree (magna cum laude) from Niagara University with a communications major. She recently earned a masters certificate in human resource management from Villanova University and has a professional human resource certification. She is president of the Lewiston Community Lions Club and a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.

"Bill Conrad has been involved in public service for more than 20 years. He brings a wide range of experience to the Town Board. Bill will fight for a cleaner environment and fiscal conservatism," Weiss said.

Conrad vowed to honor the Conservative Party's values, noting, "It is a true privilege to receive the Niagara County Conservative Party endorsement. I am hoping to take Lewiston in a new, more positive direction, and restore our residents' confidence in their town leadership. As a councilman, I plan to pay close attention to what my constituents want, and work diligently to make those things happen."

Conrad is a graduate of Niagara-Wheatfield High School. He has a bachelor's degree in architecture from SUNY at Buffalo. He is a New York state-licensed architect, certified code enforcement official, and has more than 25 years experience in the construction and development industry.

A retired Army major with 24 years of service, Conrad has served on numerous boards and committees, including the town's Zoning Board of Appeals, Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education, O/N BOCES Board of Education and Rivershore Inc. He and his wife, Lynne, have been foster and adoptive parents for 15 years, fostering more than 130 children.
