Lee S. Wallace has announced his candidacy for supervisor in the Town of Niagara.

Wallace is a lifetime resident of the town and an employee for more than 40 years, currently serving as town recreation director.

Wallace, a registered Democrat, stated, "I am truly excited about the opportunity to once again serve the people of the Town of Niagara. My experience in town government gives me the credentials, leadership and understanding needed to provide the services the public requires."

The election will be Nov. 4 for the supervisor seat. Former Supervisor Steve Richards stepped down this spring after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of official misconduct. The Town Board appointed Town Clerk Sylvia Virtuoso to handle town business affairs and lead board meetings until a new supervisor is elected.

Wallace attended the Niagara-Wheatfield schools. He studied at Niagara County Community College and Niagara University, graduating with an undergraduate degree in physical education/history and a master's degree in education. He and his wife, Patricia, have two sons and two granddaughters.

"I will have an 'open door' policy," Wallace said. "It's time that the Town of Niagara begins a new era of transparency and civility together. I will take personalities out of the decision-making process, and take a common-sense approach holding true to what the Town of Niagara residents value most."

"I am running for you, the residents of the Town of Niagara; for my family and yours. A vote for me is a vote for you; I will keep 'public' in public service," he said.

Wallace is committed to more efficient government.

"My No. 1 priority will be the residents, their issues and concerns. I will fight wasteful spending; seek to increase the town's share of the sales tax revenue. I will look to increase shared services with the towns of Wheatfield, Lewiston and Cambria, as well as the City of Niagara Falls," he said.

Wallace pledges to upgrade neighborhoods and strengthen police and fire services in the town.

"Public safety is essential for our community to thrive," he said. "I am committed to this community and dedicated to its future. Improving and upgrading our neighborhoods, as well as keeping our families and communities safe are a must. I value our fire and police departments, and will support their efforts and needs in every way."

Niagara County Democratic Chairman Nick Forster said Wallace is the right fit at the right time for the Town of Niagara.

"The town needs new leadership, and Lee is ideally suited to provide a fresh direction," Forster said. "The cronyism and partisanship in the Town of Niagara has hurt public confidence. Lee Wallace can bring in a new era and restore public confidence."
