Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School was one of 16 BISSNET Schools to receive the Oishei STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) grant. The grant will provide $40,000 for three years and is intended to promote STEAM education in the school and community, as well as collaboration with other education institutions.

Jennifer Rhoads and Katie Swanson, Niagara Catholic teachers and grant coordinators, said the school will use these funds to purchase science probe ware for exploratory lab experiments, mobile devices for inquiry-based classroom use, and a wireless network to support these devices for the 2014-15 school year. Monies will also provide Niagara Catholic an opportunity to assist current or create new student groups that will include "The Green Team," video production club, and the science Olympiad scholars.

In future years, Niagara Catholic will purchase additional mobile devices and wireless network to support art, social studies, English language arts, foreign languages and math, as well as a distance learning lab to provide additional STEAM opportunities for students. In conjunction with other BISSNET schools, middle-school-aged students will enjoy new summer experience opportunities.
