On Wednesday, May 5, 1982, at approximately 12:30 p.m., 2-1⁄2-year-old Russell Mort disappeared from his fenced-in backyard at 2080 River Road, Lot 140, in the Town of Wheatfield.

After 32 years, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office continues to actively investigate this missing person case.

Recently the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children completed an updated age progression of Russell, which is being released in hopes of generating new leads.

On May 30, the eighth annual "Ride for Missing Children" was sponsored by The National Missing and Exploited Children/NY Regional Office. The ride began at the Getzville Fire Department and traveled into Niagara County, where a portion of the ride was designated as a silent tribute honoring Russell Mort. All proceeds went to the Buffalo NCMEC/NY branch to help support efforts in bringing missing children home and providing child safety education in our community.

This year's ride began with an inspiring speech from Russell Mort's mother, encouraging the riders to never forget the missing.
