Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Lockport, has announced its award of scholarships to 10 high school student members of the credit union in the amount of $350 each. The Credit Union Scholarship Program, organized through the Credit Union Association of New York, awards scholarships based on individual student grades, participation in extracurricular activities, test scores and an essay submission.

"We had very talented applicants this year and are pleased to award these scholarships to our hard-working young members," said Suzanne English of Cornerstone CFCU. "We are proud to announce that, along with the awards handed out today, three of the students placed in the top five applicants for the Erie/Niagara Chapter."

Cornerstone CFCU's 2014 scholarship recipients are: Isaiah Barrett of Ransomville, William Blackley of Lockport, Alicia Britton of Wilson, Evan J. Conley of Gasport, Brooke Cummings of Gasport, Lauren Edbauer of Lockport, Nse Obot of Lockport, Kennedy R. Smith of Lockport, Alec J. Toth of Lockport and Marisa Walck of Ransomville.

More than 1,500 students statewide applied for CUANY scholarships, and two of the top applicants were from Cornerstone. Conley was awarded an additional $1,000 and Obot was awarded an additional $500 as state level winners, while Toth was awarded an additional $500 from the Erie/Niagara Chapter of Credit Unions.
