Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for May 2, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 176 calls from April 19 to 25. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island. Deputies responded to 14 burglary false alarm calls and six fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, April 19

•Love Road, burglary - Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at a gas station. Upon arrival, they located an unlocked door but no persons were found inside. Surveillance footage revealed a subject entered the store and stole an undetermined amount of money before fleeing. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk - A complainant stated that an intoxicated male was stumbling on the side of the road and was concerned a vehicle might strike him. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject by the description given.

•Whitehaven Road, trespass - A complainant stated that two subjects with a pickup truck were on his land without his permission. Deputies located the subjects, who were attempting to dump clean fill on the property. The subjects cleaned up the mess and left without further incident. The complainant declined to pursue charges.

•Bruce Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated he found some drug paraphernalia in the street by his residence. Deputies seized a small baggy of marijuana and pipe. The items were disposed of by patrol.

•Whitehaven Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were hanging out by a closed business. Deputies located the youths and advised them.

•Ransom Road, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 27-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .16 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to the custody of a sober third party.

Sunday, April 20

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Following an investigation of a reckless operation, deputies arrested a 58-year-old man from Alden for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .15 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to the custody of a sober third party.

•Love Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a bunch of chickens and ducks were running loose in the area. Deputies located and advised the owner.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - Employees of a business stated that they received a phone call from a male who stated he was a police officer and wished to speak with a guest at the hotel. Deputies confirmed the subject was not a member of the sheriff's office and the call was determined to be a prank.

Monday, April 21

•Hennepin Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a car alarm was going off in the neighborhood for several minutes during the late hours of the night. Deputies woke the owner, who deactivated the alarm. The vehicle did not appear to be entered.

•Fix Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•West River Road, all-terrain vehicle operation - A complainant stated a subject was driving an ATV up and down the street. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - Employees of a business stated that a customer was causing a disturbance and throwing a dog around. The subject left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

Tuesday, April 22

•Whitehaven Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that someone transferred a large sum of money from his bank account without his permission. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Hennepin Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime in the past day, an unknown person or persons broke into a residence by prying open a door and stealing various items from inside. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Gregory Place, animal complaint - A complainant stated her puppy fell down a ramp and got injured. The dog control officer was notified.

Wednesday, April 23

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked outside of a closed business during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the driver, who was on location cleaning the business.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - An employee of a gas station stated that a vehicle left the premises without paying for fuel.

•South State Parkway, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was traveling the wrong way on South State Parkway. Deputies checked the area but observed no vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•I-190, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Stony Point Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 53-year-old man from Grand Island for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently revoked. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Jamestown Road, refer to patrol - A complainant stated a logging company was operating heavy equipment during the late evening hours and that was keeping his children up. Deputies advised the employees who were leaving as patrol arrived.

Thursday, April 24

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked outside of a closed business during the late hours of the night. The business was checked and appeared to be in order.

•Staley Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, traffic arrest - While investigating the above accident, deputies arrested a 29-year-old man from Depew for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a DMV check showed his license was currently revoked. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Gregory Place, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that two teens dropped a book bag at Fisherman's Landing park and then left the area. The teens returned a short while later and retrieved the bag and then left again. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youths by the description given.

Friday, April 25

•Bush Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 61-year-old man from Grand Island for driving with a suspended registration (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a DMV check showed the plates of his vehicle were suspended. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bush Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 51-year-old person from Niagara Falls for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree (a misdemeanor) and other traffic infractions after a DMV check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, fight - A complainant stated that several youths were fighting at Veterans Park. Deputies located the youths and determined there was no fight, only a verbal dispute. The youths were advised and left without incident.
