Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for April 4, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 183 calls from March 22 to 28. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 18 burglary false alarm calls and six fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, March 22

•Ransom Road, open door - While conducting a residential premises check of Ransom Road, deputies observed an open door on a home during the late hours of the night. Deputies spoke with the occupant and determined the open door to be an oversight.

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle.

•Whitehaven Road, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 57-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .18 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis and was further charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated due to the elevated reading. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•West River Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

Sunday, March 23

•Revere Road, attempted break in - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone attempted to break into her residence by cutting open a screen window. No entry seemed to be made. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bush Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that an unoccupied vehicle was parked on the side of the road for a majority of the day. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an occupied vehicle outside of a closed business during the late hours of the night. The occupant was determined to be an employee of the business.

Monday, March 24

•Whitehaven Road, warrant arrest - Following an investigation of an unrelated incident, deputies arrested a 26-year-old man from Cheektowaga after a check revealed he had an outstanding bench warrant from the Town of Cheektowaga. The man was transferred to the custody of the Cheektowaga Police Department.

Tuesday, March 25

•Baseline Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle almost struck a school bus and the overpass while driving on the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious-looking pickup truck was slowly driving through the neighborhood multiple times. The vehicle left in an unknown direction prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Whitehaven Road, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a 28-year-old man from Hamlin after a check revealed he had an outstanding bench warrant from the Town of Grand Island. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that various items were damaged at a local business sometime in recent days. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she came home to her apartment and found her door open. Deputies checked but found no persons inside. Nothing was reported damaged or stolen.

Wednesday, March 26

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - Deputies located a person walking around the sales lot of a closed business. The subject stated he was in the market for a vehicle but did not like being hassled by salesmen. The subject was advised and left without incident.

•Fairview Court, injury accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. One person was transported to a local hospital for seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Park Place, illegal dumping - A complainant stated that a construction company was dumping debris on her property. The complainant was referred to the Town of Grand Island building inspector.

•Fix Road, shots fired - A complainant stated that she heard multiple gunshots in the area. Deputies located several subjects who were target shooting and advised them.

Thursday, March 27

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees of a store stated that two unknown persons stole various items from the store and then left in a vehicle. The employees were able to obtain a license plate of the suspects' vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Marilyn Drive, open door - A complainant stated that the door to his neighbor's house was open and it didn't appear as if anyone was home. Deputies checked the residence but found no persons inside. The door was re-secured.

•Stony Point Road, refer to patrol - A complainant stated that a child, who was not being supervised, almost ran into the roadway. Deputies spoke to the mother of the child and advised her.

Friday, March 28

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a bottle filled with a suspicious liquid was sitting on the side of the road. Deputies determined the bottle was filled with a normal drinking liquid.

•Cardinal Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a light on her neighbor's residence was blinking on and off like an alarm had been activated. Deputies checked the premises and determined the problem to be an electrical issue.

•Love Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated an unknown person damaged her vehicle while she was at a convenience store.
