Ceretto announces next step in Robert Moses redesign

Assemblyman John Ceretto today announced the next step in the redesign of the Robert Moses Parkway has been approved. A preliminary engineering and environmental review will take place with $2 million in funding from the New York Power Authority.

The review is slated to begin in May, and is the next step toward opening up the Niagara waterfront for development and bringing more business into downtown Niagara Falls.

Ceretto has partnered with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and local leaders to advance this project, which is critical to the Niagara Falls economy. He has long advocated for these changes and continues to work with elected leaders to get the design finished as quickly as possible.

"A lot of good economic development projects have been brought to Niagara Falls in the last year, but the redesign of the Robert Moses Parkway is the most important," Ceretto said. "Opening up the Niagara waterfront for commercial development has the potential to bring thousands of jobs and revenues to the city.

"As we take this next step in the process, I'll be continuing to work with Gov. Cuomo and local leaders to get the job done so that the people of Niagara Falls will see the benefits as soon as possible."

The first phase will involve removal of the current segment of the Robert Moses Parkway-North from Main Street to Findlay Drive in Niagara Falls, reconstruction of Whirlpool Street to permit visual and physical access between city neighborhoods and the Niagara Gorge, and landscape and habitat restoration.
