Funds available for students enrolling in foodservice/hospitality curriculum

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program, which supports local high school seniors in pursuit of higher education in the foodservice and hospitality industries. The scholarship awards up to five winners with $1,000 each to be applied toward college education.

This year, New Era joins the Taste in this partnership, and one $1000 scholarship will be awarded on behalf of New Era in conjunction with its corporate giving program.

To be eligible for a scholarship, students must be residents of one of the eight Western New York counties (Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Wyoming, Genesee, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus or Allegany). They must also be enrolled, or intend to enroll, in a foodservice or hospitality curriculum at an accredited two- or four-year school for the fall 2014 semester.

Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of academic achievement, experience, recommendations, community involvement, goal objectives and overall interest in the industry.

Since the scholarship program began in 1997, more than $61,000 has been awarded to help Western New York foodservice and hospitality students.

For additional information or to download an application, visit www.tasteofbuffalo.com. The completed application, a current transcript and report card, and letters of recommendation must be received by Friday, March 28.

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is the nation's largest two-day food festival, attracting more than 400,000 people to downtown Buffalo. The 31st annual Taste is July 12 and 13, along Delaware Avenue and Niagara Square.

The Taste is a not-for-profit organization with more than 1,000 volunteers helping to put on the annual event. More than $250,000 has been raised at the festival for local charities, in addition to awarding five $1,000 scholarships annually to local high school seniors.

For more information, visit the Taste online, on Facebook or on Twitter.
