Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Dec. 20, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 160 calls from Dec. 7 to 13. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 12 burglary false alarm calls and one fire alarm during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Dec. 7

•Sheree Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was walking a dog late at night and appeared to be looking inside of cars and houses. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Center Court, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was walking through the apartment complex parking lot during the late hours of the night and appeared to be looking into cars. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•I-190, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Continental Lane, animal loose - A complainant stated that her dog went missing during the previous day. The dog control officer was notified.

•Ward Park Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone smashed the windshield of his vehicle using a cinder block.

•Jamestown Road, animal loose - Deputies located a loose dog in the neighborhood. The dog was returned to its rightful owner.

•Long Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Baseline Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated she heard five shots fired in the area. Deputies checked and determined the shots to be fireworks, but were unable to locate anyone in the area.

Sunday, Dec. 8

•Glen Avon Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 24-year-old man from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and a traffic infraction. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Schwegler Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone used a firework to blow up his mailbox. This complaint is seemingly linked to the fireworks use complaint deputies responded to during the night on Baseline Road.

•South State Parkway, narcotics arrest - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 40-year-old woman from Grand Island for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor), criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument (a class A misdemeanor), aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree (a misdemeanor) and several traffic infractions. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Ransom Road, suspicious person with vehicle - Employees of a gas station/convenience store stated that a male patron entered the store and appeared to be intoxicated. The male then left the store and was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot. Deputies located the male subject and the vehicle and determined he was not intoxicated. The male subject was advised and left without incident.

•South State Parkway, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes on South State Parkway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

Monday, Dec. 9

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a telephone pole. No injuries were reported. National Grid was notified due to the damage the pole sustained.

•Baseline Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 22-year-old woman from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and a traffic infraction. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Tuesday, Dec. 10

•Whitehaven Road, wires down - Deputies responded to a report of wires in the roadway.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Marilyn Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the previous evening, someone stole various construction items from her yard. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Wednesday, Dec. 11

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she was awakened by the sound of someone kicking her door down during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•Riverdale Drive, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a male subject sleeping in his parked vehicle during the late hours of night. The subject was advised and left without incident.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Sheree Drive, animal loose - A complainant stated that a loose dog was running through the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - Employees of Sunoco stated that a male patron came inside the store and attempted to buy alcohol with a fake ID. When refused the sale, the male subject left in a vehicle in an unknown direction. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

Thursday, Dec. 12

•Calvano Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone went through her garbage and may have taken personal papers.

•East River Road, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a male in a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle was driving through the neighborhood numerous times. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or subject by the description given.

•Grand Island Boulevard, narcotics/traffic arrest - Employees of a business stated that a male subject was slumped over in his vehicle and appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man from Grand Island for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree (a misdemeanor) and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Friday, Dec. 13

•Love Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested an 18-year-old man from Niagara Falls for criminal possession of marijuana in the third degree (a class E felony) and traffic infractions after he was found to be in possession of approximately 12 ounces of marijuana. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Love Road, burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime in the past month, someone entered his business and stole various tools and construction equipment. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Greenway Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated his child's phone was stolen by a known person or persons while at Grand Island High School. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Alvin Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.
