The members of the Grand Island chapter of DECA, a business and marketing club, were present to be inducted into the state and national level of DECA at Salvatore's Italian Gardens on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The Grand Island chapter is now the largest in Western New York, with 140 members, which include a large middle school chapter led by MaryJane Fonte at Veronica Connor Middle School. There are more than 200,000 members worldwide and 750 members in WNY.

Grand Island High School advisor Cheryl Chamberlain attributes the growth of the club to a large interest in business classes and future careers in related fields.

"DECA is a great way to help students be successful in so many areas, such as communications, problem-solving, and leadership," Chamberlain said. "People always tell me that our DECA students are the most prepared on job interviews and it is due to this outstanding professional program."

Currently, students are busy preparing for the DECA regional competition in January where they may qualify for the state conference in March.
