The Tuscarora Indian School recently finished another successful summer school program.

Principal Elizabeth Corieri said she is impressed with her staff and students and the strides they made over the last few months. "The students were very committed to improving their performance and achievements over the summer. Not only were our teachers working with them on the Common Core Learning Standards in reading, writing, math, science and music, we also offered a Credit Recovery class for our Niagara-Wheatfield High School students who are trying to stay on track for graduation."

Corieri said the program not only held a lot of learning opportunities, but was filled with discoveries. "We really wanted to motivate the students and get them thinking. They had writing assignments where they had to envision where they would be in five years and then 10 years and some of the things they wrote were really profound. We had students read 'Of Mice and Men' on Kindles and write reports that they shared with an audience that also included our Superintendent Dr. Fusco. Everyone was so impressed. We put up a Wall of Fame to highlight the students' achievements. The students loved it."

She said the summer school program is a great way to keep the momentum going to bridge the two school years together. "I am very proud of all the students and staff who made this session a success and of the continued support we get from the district. We are looking forward to another great school year!"
