Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Aug. 9, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 171 calls from July 27 to Aug. 2. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to nine burglary false alarm calls and six fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, July 27

•Love Road, fight - Deputies responded to a report of numerous people fighting in front of a pizzeria. The subjects involved left prior to the arrival of deputies. Employees on location stated that only two people were involved and did not appear injured before leaving the scene.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from her unlocked vehicle.

•Winkler Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from her unlocked vehicle.

•Ransom Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a neighbor was target shooting and using a fence as a backstop. Deputies spoke to the subject, who was shooting a BB gun, and advised him.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Whitehaven Road, shots fired - A complainant stated she heard possible shots fired in the area of a club. Deputies checked the area but no more shots were heard.

•Calvano Drive, fireworks use - Several neighbors stated that fireworks were being used in the area. Deputies checked the area but no more fireworks were heard.

•Deerwood Lane, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent hours, someone stole stereo speakers from his yard. The speakers were located after the complainant spoke to a family member, who had taken them to help the complainant transport them.

•Jenell Drive, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby residence. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

Sunday, July 28

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - Employees of a club stated that a vehicle was parked in the lot during the late hours of the night and appeared to be occupied. Deputies spoke to the occupants, who were waiting for a ride home.

•Staley Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a party at a nearby residence. Deputies spoke to the occupants and advised them.

•Park Place, fireworks use - A complainant stated loud music and fireworks were coming from a nearby residence. Deputies checked the area and determined the complaint to be unfounded.

•I-190, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Baseline Road, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 25-year-old man from Grand Island for unlawful possession of marijuana (a violation) and other vehicle and traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, accident injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. One driver was treated on-scene by personnel from the Grand Island Fire Co. for seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Laurie Lane, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a nearby residence. Deputies spoke to the occupants and advised them.

Monday, July 29

•Grand Island Boulevard, disorderly conduct - Deputies responded to a report of loud music at an apartment complex. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man from Grand Island for disorderly conduct (a violation), obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor), criminal nuisance in the second degree (a class B misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of alcohol by person under the age of 21 (a violation). Deputies also arrested a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both of North Tonawanda, for unlawful possession of alcohol by person under the age of 21. All the subjects were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, road obstruction - Deputies removed debris that was found in the roadway.

•Whitehaven Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that sometime during the day, someone entered her residence by smashing a back window. No items were reported missing at the time of the report. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Monday, July 30

•West Oakfield Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a raccoon appeared to be injured or sick. Deputies removed the animal to the wooded area of the property.

•Ward Park Road, warrant serve - Deputies arrested an 18-year-old man after serving a bench warrant issued from the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Park Place, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was driving around the neighborhood and stopping to ask children for directions. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Love Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that a large group of youths were walking around Kaegebein Elementary School during the late evening hours. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any youths on the premise.

•East Park Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated that a large amount of fireworks was being used somewhere in the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects using fireworks.

Tuesday, July 31

•Stony Point Road, property found - A complainant stated that a bicycle was left in the area of the cemetery and no one appeared to be around. Deputies took custody of the bicycle and are waiting to hear from an owner to claim it.

•Fix Road, warrant arrest - Following a complaint of an unwelcome guest, deputies arrested a 17-year-old man from Grand Island after a check showed he had a bench warrant issued for his arrest from the City of Tonawanda. He was turned over to the custody of the City of Tonawanda Police Department.

•Towerwood Drive, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that sometime during the night, someone damaged her mailbox.

•Riverdale Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that sometime during the night, someone stole a purse from her unlocked vehicle.

•Ransom Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a vehicle stopped near the front of her driveway and an occupant appeared to take a picture of her children with a cell phone camera. Deputies located a vehicle matching the description nearby. The occupants stated they pulled over to allow an emergency vehicle to pass but did not take any pictures. All parties were advised.

•Harvey Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in her backyard. Prior to the arrival of patrol, the dog was reunited with its owner.

•Park Lane, barking dog - A complainant stated that a dog was barking for the last few hours from a nearby residence. Deputies spoke to the occupants of the residence and advised them.

•East Park Road, barking dog - A complainant stated that a dog was barking for the last four hours from a nearby residence. Deputies spoke to the occupant, who brought the dog inside the home.

•Amy Drive, barking dog - A complainant stated a dog was barking for several hours during the night. Deputies spoke to the occupant, who brought the dog inside.

Thursday, Aug. 1

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male wearing a backpack was loitering in the area of the post office. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the male matching the description given.

•Whitehaven Road, accident injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. A driver was transported to an area hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Stony Point Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a neighbor was spinning his tires on the front lawn. Deputies spoke to the subject and advised him.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Friday, Aug. 2

•Baseline Road, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 28-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic infractions. The man registered a .14 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Staley Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was searching through a trash can and a cigarette butt disposal unit near a local business. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the male.

•Broadway, animal complaint - The complainant stated that a bat was flying around inside of her residence. Deputies were able to remove the animal from the home.
