Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for April 5, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 176 calls from March 23 to March 29. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 11 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, March 23

•Whitehaven Road, customer trouble - Employees at a hotel stated that several guests were causing a disturbance and refused to leave when asked by staff members. Deputies located the subjects and advised them. The subjects left without further incident.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a subject in the back of a restaurant late at night. The subject was an employee opening the business for the day.

•Havenwood Lane, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Stony Point Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that an unknown male knocked on the door of her residence and left shortly after. Deputies located the subject, who was soliciting door to door.

•Whitehaven Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - A complainant stated he found his neighbor's dog running loose in the area. When he tried to return the dog, it appeared no one was home, but the complainant stated that three young children looked to be home alone. Deputies checked and were able to speak to the homeowner, who just didn't hear his neighbor knocking.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Alvin Road, suspicious vehicle - An employee at an automobile dealership stated that she found a truck on the lot that was running, but no one was around it. Deputies located the vehicle, which seemed to have been left running by accident.

•Calvano Drive, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies determined the call to be a mistake.

•Fix Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject was standing on the lawn at his neighbor's house. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject. No damage was observed.

•Wallace Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle pulled into her driveway late at night and began honking the horn. The vehicle left shortly after and deputies located it nearby. The driver stated that she was dropping her children off to the custody of their father, who was the complainant's next-door neighbor.

•East River Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 28-year-old woman from Buffalo, for aggravated unlicensed operation third degree and other traffic infractions. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Sunday, March 24

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a male subject was attempting to kick in the door of her apartment. Deputies spoke to the complainant on scene, who then told deputies that she called 911 because a male subject she did not know entered the apartment building and was concerned. The complainant was advised and her allegations were determined to be unfounded.

•White Oak Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that three subjects were knocking on the door of her residence during the late evening hours. Deputies located the subjects, who had purchased a fridge from the complainant's husband and were there to pick it up.

Monday, March 25

•Grand Island Boulevard, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from an apartment inside of his complex. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the subjects to turn it down.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was sitting on the bridge abutment by the creek and staring into traffic. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Buckhorn State Park, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a male subject was walking his dog and appeared to be punching the dog in the head. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects matching the description.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that an unknown person was taping death threat letters on her apartment door. The complainant was unable to provide patrol with any of the letters. Deputies determined her allegations to be unfounded.

•East River Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Melrose Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

Tuesday, March 26

•Grand Island Boulevard, assist person - A complainant stated that the car wash caused damage to his vehicle. Deputies advised the complainant and employees of the car wash that the issue was a civil matter.

•Ransom Road, assault - Deputies responded to a report of an assault at the Grand Island High School. Their investigation led to the arrest of a juvenile offender for assault in the third degree (a class A misdemeanor). The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•South Colony Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he found 30 to 40 fish that appeared to be dead floating near his boat dock. Deputies confirmed with Department of Environmental Conservation that this was normal for this time of year due to there being less oxygen in the water.

•Bedell Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a vehicle full of youths was driving down the street, and the youths appeared to be throwing fireworks out of the windows of the vehicle. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Wednesday, March 27

•Bedell Road, neighbor dispute - A complainant stated that a neighbor in her apartment complex was using the washing machine late at night. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects using the laundry facilities.

•Baseline Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bush Road, open door - A complainant stated that a door was open to a residence and it did not appear anyone was home. Deputies checked and were able to secure the door. No damage was observed.

Thursday, March 28

•Timberlink Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that several subjects rang his doorbell late at night and then fled. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects. No damage was observed.

•White Tail Run, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle with Ohio license plates was parked on the street. Deputies located the vehicle but nothing appeared suspicious in nature.

•West Oakfield Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked on the street and, when she approached the car, it took off. Deputies located the vehicle and the ascertained the driver's intentions.

•Forest Creek, marijuana possession - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 47-year-old man from Ransomville for unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic infractions. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - Deputies located four youths walking late at night. The subjects stated they were walking home from a friend's house. Deputies advised the subjects.

Friday, March 29

•Carl Road, disorderly person - A complainant stated that a subject struck the mirror of her car while she was driving. Deputies located the subject and advised him. No damage was reported.

•Ransom Road, suspicious vehicle - Employees at a gas station/convenience store stated that a vehicle was parked in the lot for several hours and numerous persons were approaching the vehicle and leaving. Deputies checked the area and located the vehicle, which was unoccupied with no subjects around it.

•Blackmon Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that several subjects were walking down the street late at night and appeared to be looking into cars. Deputies located the subjects and advised them. No damage was observed and nothing was reported stolen.
