Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Jan. 11, 2013

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 166 calls from Dec. 29, 2012, to Jan. 4, 2013. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to nine burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Dec. 29

•Grand Island Boulevard, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 21-year-old man from Grand Island for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree after a Department of Motor Vehicles check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Love Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a male subject leaning against a vehicle in a darkened parking lot late at night. The subject was advised.

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Long Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Broadway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of an accident in a business parking lot. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 57-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .12 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Whitehaven Road, traffic arrest - Deputies responded to a report of a disabled motor vehicle on Whitehaven Road. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man from Niagara Falls for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree after a DMV check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Long Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•South State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, warrant arrest - Following an investigation into an unrelated incident, deputies arrested a juvenile offender after a check showed he had two valid warrants from the City of Buffalo. The juvenile offender was turned over to the custody of the Buffalo Police Department.

Sunday Dec. 30

•Baseline Road, reckless operation - Deputies located a vehicle that had become stuck in the mud while attempting to off-road on the pipeline area located on Baseline Road. Charges are pending against the driver.

•Ward Park Road, attempted burglary - Deputies responded to a report of two individuals attempting to break into a residence on Ward Park Road. The complainant stated that it appeared one subject was armed with a handgun. The subjects fled prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the suspects. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•LaSalle Avenue, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that had been stolen from a driveway on LaSalle Avenue. The complainant stated she observed her vehicle backing out of the driveway and leaving the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•East River Road, larceny - Several complainants stated that, sometime during the night, someone entered multiple unlocked vehicles in the area and stole various items. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•West Park Road, hit-and-run accident - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, a known individual struck his vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Love Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 31-year-old man from Niagara Falls for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree after a DMV check showed his license was currently suspended. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Monday, Dec. 31

•Whitehaven Road, burglary - Deputies responded to a report of a burglary at the Nike Base on Whitehaven Road. Employees stated that, sometime during the night, unknown persons entered the maintenance garage by breaking a window. The suspects then spray-painted numerous buildings on the property. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in her driveway with no one around it. Deputies located the owner, who was a neighbor, and the vehicle was removed.

•Stony Point Road, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 60-year-old man from Akron for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man refused to submit a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was charged with felony driving while intoxicated due to a previous conviction in the past 10 years. Two people were transported to local hospitals with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Beaver Island State Park, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an occupied vehicle parked in Beaver Island State Park late at night. The occupants were advised and left without incident.

•Stony Point Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was speeding down the road and swerving from lane to lane. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Tuesday, Jan. 1

•Bedell Road, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 37-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .16 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Whitehaven Road, larceny - An employee of a hotel stated that, sometime during her shift, someone stole her purse.

•Jeffrey Drive, barking dog - Deputies responded to a report of a barking dog on Jeffrey Drive during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the owner, who brought the dog inside.

Wednesday, Jan. 2

•Stony Point Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked in a closed business lot during the late hours of the night. Deputies were able to locate the owner, who was cleaner at the business.

•Bedell Road, fraud - A complainant stated that someone opened several credit cards in his name and made purchases, all without his permission.

Thursday, Jan. 3

•Stony Point Road, animal loose - A complainant stated a dog was running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

Friday, Jan. 4

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, road obstruction - Deputies responded to a report of a tree down and blocking the roadway. The Erie County Division of Highways was notified and responded to remove the tree.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. The vehicle was able to remove itself from the ditch prior to patrol's arrival.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent weeks, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle.

•West River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that an unknown vehicle drove over his lawn and caused minor damage. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Pin Oak Circle, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent weeks, someone stole various items from his residence. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
