Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Dec. 28, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 165 calls from Dec. 15 to 21. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 19 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Dec. 15

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - A complainant stated that a driver was passed out behind the wheel in a restaurant drive-thru. While the complainant was dialing 911, the driver woke up and began to drive away. Deputies located the vehicle nearby on Bedell Road and initiated a traffic stop. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 45-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .19 of 1 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was further charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated due to the elevated reading. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disturbance - Deputies responded to a report of a fight call with a possible gun involved at a tavern. Deputies spoke to numerous patrons and determined there was a verbal dispute between intoxicated individuals, but no physical altercation. No subjects were in possession of a gun. All subjects were advised and left without incident.

•Stony Point Road, open door - Deputies responded to a report of a residential burglar alarm. When on location, deputies located an open door to the residence and made entry to clear the home. No subjects were found inside and the residence did not appear to be burglarized.

•Riverdale Drive, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hangup call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop and subsequent investigation, deputies arrested a 25-year-old man from Cheektowaga for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The man registered a .26 of 1 percent

blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. The man was further charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated due to the elevated reading. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

Sunday, Dec. 16

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from an apartment in her complex. Deputies located the apartment in question and advised the occupants.

•Grand Island Boulevard, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from an apartment in her complex. Deputies located the apartment in question and advised the occupants.

•Old Carriage House Road, animal bite - A complainant stated he was bitten by a dog in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Fix Road, identity theft - A complainant stated that someone used her bank card to make unauthorized purchases in Canada.

•Stony Point Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked illegally and damaging his lawn. Deputies spoke to the owner and advised her.

Monday, Dec. 17

•Grand Island Boulevard, fraud - A complainant stated that someone obtained her credit card information and made fraudulent purchases.

•Brandywine Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious-looking van was driving through the neighborhood very slowly. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Spicer Creek Road, suspicious incident - Deputies located a vehicle with a broken back window. Deputies were able to speak to the owner and the damage was not new.

•Baseline Road, animal loose - A complainant stated a loose dog was running around the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Woodstream Circle, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a youth was going door to door selling raffle tickets. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youth.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday Dec. 18

•Baseline Road, animal injury - A complainant stated that a dog attacked another dog in the neighborhood and injured the animal. The dog control officer was notified.

•Town Hall Terrace, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Long Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the lot of a building. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his unlocked vehicle.

•Stony Point Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Wednesday, Dec. 19

•Tracey Lane, parking violation - Deputies cited a vehicle that was parked illegally.

•Bedell Road, illegal dumping - A complainant stated that someone was dumping garbage in a lot on Bedell Road.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - Employees at at a fast food restaurant stated that a customer was repeatedly harassing employees. Deputies spoke to the subject and advised him.

•Harvey Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, earlier in the day, a suspicious male subject came to her door and began to ask her about personal tax and deed information.

•Baseline Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days someone damaged the siding to his home by throwing stain on it.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, an unknown person stole various items from his unlocked vehicle.

•Schwegler Road, suspicious incident - Deputies located a vehicle with its door open and no one around during the late evening hours. Deputies spoke to the owner and determined the door to be an oversight.

•Trails End, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he heard unfamiliar voices and loud music coming from the first floor of his residence. Deputies checked and determined the noises to be family members that returned home earlier than expected.

Thursday, Dec. 20

•Marjorie Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from two unlocked vehicles.

•Love Road, Larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from an unlocked vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, a known person drove across his lawn with a vehicle and caused significant damage. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man from Grand Island for criminal mischief in the fourth degree (a class A misdemeanor) and criminal tampering third degree (a class B misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•East River Road, Fraud - A complainant stated that he believes he is the victim of a scam involving a vacation property in Ellicottville. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Ransom Road, suspicious incident - Numerous complaints were fielded regarding the rumor of a school shooting at Grand Island High School. The Erie County Sheriff's Office along with assistance from the New York State Troopers and the Federal Bureau of Investigation followed up with numerous leads and reports. School officials were notified of the incident. Police investigation deemed the threats to be unfounded, however the Erie County Sheriff's Office and the State Troopers increased their presence at the schools as a precautionary measure.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies observed a vehicle pull into a business parking lot during the late evening hours. The vehicle belonged to a security guard that was checking the property.

Friday, Dec. 21

•Baseline Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that several grocery bags were piled up along the building across from Sidway Elementary School. Deputies located the bag and determined the contents to be groceries left for donation.

•Love Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, criminal mischief - Employees at a hotel stated that a driver struck the building, causing minor damage, and then drove off. Employees were able to get a plate number to the vehicle before it fled. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
