Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Dec. 7, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 156 calls from Nov. 24 to 30. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 13 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Nov. 24

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call from a pay phone at a supermarket. Deputies were unable to locate anyone in need of police assistance.

•Greenway Road, animal loose - A complainant stated she found a dog running loose in the neighborhood. The complainant was able to reunite the dog with its owner.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an unoccupied suspicious vehicle in a supermarket parking lot. No owner was identified.

•Parkview Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that several unknown subjects were cutting down trees on property not belonging to them.

•Third Avenue, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in front of his residence. Shortly after the complainant dialed 911, the vehicle left the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Sunday, Nov. 25

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - Deputies responded to a report of an alarm ringing at a strip plaza business. Upon arrival, deputies found an exterior window that had been smashed. No entry was made into the business and no subjects were located during a search of the area.

•Love Road, disorderly persons - Deputies responded to a report of a fight at a pizzeria. Deputies located several subjects who had been involved in a minor physical dispute. No subjects wished to pursue any charges. The subjects were advised and left without further incident.

•Fairview Court, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone entered his unlocked garage and stole various items, including an all-terrain vehicle and construction tools. In a search of the immediate area, deputies located the all-terrain vehicle, which was processed and returned to the owner. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Havenwood Lane, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked on the sidewalk of Havenwood Lane. Deputies located the owner and advised her.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Bush Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Monday, Nov. 26

•West River Road, harassment - A complainant stated that his neighbor was harassing his family and that he has a duly served order of protection against the subject. Deputies arrested a 55-year-old man from Grand Island for criminal contempt in the first degree (a class E felony) and harassment in the second degree (a violation). The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from her unlocked vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Stony Point Road, fraud - A complainant stated that someone opened a credit card account in her name and made unlawful purchases.

•Park Lane, identity theft - A complainant stated that someone used an online account to make unlawful purchases.

Tuesday, Nov. 27

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that someone stole the license plates from his vehicle.

•Stony Point Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries. The Grand Island Fire Co. treated multiple subjects on-scene for seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Whitehaven Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a deer struck on Whitehaven Road. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked in the lot of a closed business late at night. No subjects were observed in the area.

Wednesday, Nov. 28

•Love Road, burglary - Deputies responded to a report of an alarm ringing at a gas station/convenience store. Upon arrival, deputies found that the front door to the business had been smashed. A check of the surveillance footage showed a male subject smashing the door and making entry to steal various brands of cigarettes. The subject is described as a white male, medium build, dark-colored hair and a goatee or mustache. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Erie County Sheriff's Office at 858-2903. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - Deputies located an open door at a pizzeria. The open door appeared to be an oversight, and nothing was reported stolen.

•Whitehaven Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that numerous dump trucks were speeding down Whitehaven Road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicles.

•Love Road, larceny - A complainant stated that she lost her debit card during recent weeks, but was notified by her carrier that someone had used the card to make purchases. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Blackmon Road, robbery - A complainant stated that he was chased down by two male subjects, who then beat him with a baseball bat and stole his hat. The Erie County Sheriff's Office was able to recover evidence and identify the two suspects. Arrests are expected to be made in coming days. More information to follow.

Thursday, Nov. 29

•Stony Point Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a cat was running in and out of the roadway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the animal.

•Alvin Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•South State Parkway, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a pickup truck was swerving all over the road. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•East Park Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a house in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the occupants of the residence.

•Bedell Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a deer struck on Bedell Road. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Nov. 30

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a suspicious person walking late at night. The subject was walking to a friend's house after having an argument at home.

•East River Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a deer struck on East River Road. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a 40-year-old man from Grand Island after serving a bench warrant from the Town of Grand Island Court. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Sturbridge Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that she arrived home and found her front door was unlocked and she heard unusual noises coming from inside the residence. Deputies checked the residence but found no one inside. Nothing was reported stolen.
