At 8:36 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, Grand Island Fire Co. rescue personnel responded to a three-car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Baseline and Love roads. The force of the impact caused a rollover of two of the vehicles, according to Deputy Fire Chief Matt Osinski.

When GIFC firefighter/medics arrived on location minutes later, all occupants had managed to escape from their damaged automobiles. Sherry Walsh, age 65, of Grand Island sustained traumatic injuries when her car flipped over onto its roof. She was stabilized and transported to Erie County Medical Center for further medical attention.

Another driver, 39-year-old Kristen Shea of Grand Island, was treated at the scene for traumatic injuries after her vehicle had also landed upside down. She was likewise transported to Erie County Medical Center for follow-up treatment.

The third driver, 59-year-old Paul Ormsby of Grand Island, sustained minor injuries and declined hospitalization.

Although a pet of one of the drivers, a dog, was lost in this horrendous crash, fire officials felt that it was miraculous that the drivers themselves avoided critical injuries or worse.

All GIFC units returned to service at 9:47 a.m. while Erie County Sheriff's Office investigators attempted to determine the cause of the accident.
