The president of The United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame and chief instructor of The International Krav Maga Association will visit Wheatfield to give a one-time seminar in the art of krav maga.

The seminar will be presented on Saturday, March 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at YI-DAN CHA GI Martial Arts Center, 3305 Niagara Falls Blvd.

Professor Marty Cale is president and chief director of the International Association of Krav Maga and is in charge of setting up krav maga schools and instructor seminars for civilians and law enforcement around the world. He is a10th-degree black belt who recently returned from Israel, bringing more techniques home in his specialty.

Krav maga is Hebrew for "contact combat." It is the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces and is used by members of several U.S. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI the U.S. Secret Service, and the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as many other elite combat, defense and law enforcement units around the world.

No experience is needed to participate in the seminar. Benefits include physical fitness, confidence and self-defense. The techniques are quick and easy to learn.

The seminar is instructed with control and complete understanding of when krav maga should be used. The seminar is open to those 18 years of age and older (or 16 with previous martial arts experience).

Grandmaster Jim Wood and his wife, Nina, are associate instructors under Cale. Their classes are held at their studio on Mondays and Thursdays.

"We have women that have jobs where they walk to their cars at night, men that are 72, Women that want the benefit of physical fitness and those who are just interested in the martial arts - protecting themselves," Nina Wood said.
