Town of Niagara Police Blotter for July 21, 2011

The following is a sampling of calls received by the Town of Niagara Police between June 27 and July 3.

Monday, June 27

•3200 block of Miller Road, animal complaint. Patrol responded to a call regarding a rabid raccoon in a yard. Patrol found the raccoon, which appeared to have a broken leg, and notified wildlife rescue.

•200 block of Juanita Drive, larceny. A female victim told patrol that an unknown person entered her vehicle and stole a GPS unit.

•Expressway Village, burglary. A victim notified patrol that an unknown person broke into her home and stole a jug of loose change in a bedroom as well as jewelry from a safe.

Tuesday, June 28

•5100 block of Sweet Home Road, assist citizen. A complainant notified police that an unknown person vandalized their home by taking various items from around the neighborhood, including flags, bicycles, and garbage cans, and threw them on their lawn.

•1570 block of Military Road, EMS aid. Victim burned their hand on soup. Rural Metro attended to the victim, who did not want any intervention.

•2590 block of Military Road, 911 call. Manager of business called regarding an employee who had fainted, but declined medical intervention. Patrol waited until a family member arrived.

Wednesday, June 29

•3000 block of Lincoln Street, vandalism. Complainant said his son egged his home and then called him and mocked him about it. Patrol contacted the son and told him to either clean the home or be charged with criminal mischief.

•2200 block of Tuscarora Road, vehicular disturbance. Patrol received a report of a dirt bike bothering residents.

•Tuscarora Road, aid. Patrol assisted Niagara Falls Police with a fireworks complaint.

Friday, July 1

•Military Road, attempt to locate hit-and-run driver. Patrol responded to a request by the Niagara Falls Police Department to search for a car involved in a hit-and-run of a pedestrian at a fast food restaurant. Negative results.

•2400 block of Military Road, fire. Patrol notified of smoke coming from a dumpster in a parking lot. Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Fire Co. on the scene.

•3000 block of Petroleum Street, EMS aid. Patrol assisted EMS from Niagara Active Hose in helping a 19-year-old female who appeared to be in labor.

•6400 block of Packard Road, EMS aid. Patrol notified of a male injured by being pinned between two cars. The male was not bleeding and was both conscious and alert. Rural Metro Ambulance and Niagara Active Hose responded. He was taken to Mount St. Mary's Hospital for treatment.

•2230 block of Tuscarora Road, suspicious person/vandalism. Complainant said someone threw Molotov cocktails at the driveway and lawn. Although glass broke each time, only the lawn was slightly damaged.

Saturday, July 2

•Military Road at North Hewitt Drive, assist State Parks Police. Patrol assisted with an accident involving an intoxicated driver and other passengers. One male was taken into custody.

•2200 block of Fashion Outlet Boulevard, assist Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. Patrol assisted NFTA police with a harassment complaint inside the bus terminal.

•1800 block of Military Road, larceny. A business employee reported that the previous day, someone stole $471 of merchandise. The employee stated that she saw five people in the store the previous day who she believes may have been responsible, and offered police a description of the suspects.

•1900 block of Military Road, larceny. A victim in the mall food court told patrol that he placed his wallet on a counter, and when he returned the wallet was missing. Mall employees saw a male take the wallet from the counter.

Sunday, July 3

•500 block of D Street, check situation. A female complainant stated she wished to have her intoxicated husband removed from the home. However, patrol told the female since he was a resident and no charges were held against him, this was not possible. After clearing, patrol responded a second time after the male began causing a disturbance outside. Patrol discovered that the male damaged his wife's vehicle, but charges could not be filed because the car was marital property.

•1710 block of Main Street, Niagara Falls, assist Niagara Falls Police. Patrol assisted with a large fight occurring in the area. Many shots had been fired and one subject was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to care for a gunshot wound. Patrol stood by until the crowd cleared.

•1600 block of Military Road, larceny. Patrol was notified that two people ate food at a restaurant and left without paying. Another employee identified one of the suspects as a relative.

•D Street, animal complaint. Complainant said that a pit bull across the street broke free of its chains and began attacking her dog during a walk. A neighbor heard the commotion and came out to try and break up the dogs, hitting the pit bull on the head. Both dog owners were issued tickets when patrol discovered neither dog was registered with the town.

Monday, July 4

•200 block of Juanita Drive, noise complaint. Residents complied with request for quiet.

•Multiple addresses, fireworks complaints.

Wednesday, July 6

•1500 block of Military Road, driving under the influence/drug possession. Patrol was sent to a restaurant by Niagara County Sheriff's Office to locate an intoxicated driver. Patrol located the vehicle. Later, the vehicle's driver left the restaurant and drove to the listed location where he struck a shopping cart. Patrol discerned that the subject appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, alcohol or another substance. Syringes and other drug paraphernalia were found in the car.

•Porter/Packard roads, vehicular accident. Driver said she was in the inside lane when a driver in the outside lane decided to make a U-turn, causing her to strike the vehicle.
