St. Paul to open time capsule

St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, is holding a reunion of confirmed and former students on Sunday, July 17.

The day's events begin with one worship service at 10 a.m. The Rev. Paul Otterstein, (St. Paul School alumnus and confirmed, Class of 1963) will be the guest preacher. Otterstein is pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schenenfeld, Germany.

A catered picnic, by Carmen's Catering Service, will be held under the big tent and also indoors, immediately following the worship service. A free will offering will be taken.

During the picnic, attendees can have free photos taken with friends at the photo booth. Entertainment will be provided by Wing and a Prayer, featuring former St. Paul Lutheran School teacher Lynne Jacob.

A time capsule containing items placed in it by school students in March 1988 will be opened.

"This will answer the question 'What's in the box?' Which confirmation classes have asked during the past 10 years," said Haeussler. "It seems that at every class session someone has asked that question."

The day will provide the opportunity to meet old friends and teachers, tour the buildings which have had many changes, view displays of photos, school trophies, confirmation class photos and other memorabilia.

"This will be a day to remember the great times at St. Paul," said retired Principal Paul Gerlach. "I have seen reservations from people across the United States."

The reunion is the seventh major monthly celebration event during the 150th anniversary year of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
