School might be out for the summer, but children's education and learning shouldn't be.

With the disappearance of several summer school programs due to lack of funding, an alternative is available for parents who want to prevent their child regressing over the summer: Huntington Learning Center.

"Many children could use a little extra help in school, and summer is a great time to get ahead or address the problem areas," says Wayne Sutcliffe of the Kenmore Huntington Learning Center. "Summer is the perfect opportunity to boost your child's chances for success in school."

Learning centers provide several advantages for children, especially over the summer. Children might be overwhelmed during the school year, with the stress of juggling homework, activities, and work all at once. Over the summer, these school-year priorities are often removed, giving students seven to eight more hours of free time every day for three months, which is ample time for learning.

There is one main focus at learning centers, which is the individual student. It is common for a student who learns at a different pace or manner to fall behind his or her classmates, and so learning centers, such as Huntington, help them catch up. Individual tutoring reaches the root of a problem, as all teachers are academically trained and evaluated to understand a child's strengths and weaknesses. The tutoring is therefore customized for that child's individual needs.

Huntington Learning Center keeps the family involved as well, measuring student development at certain intervals and keeping the family updated. They also work to make the process not only easy for the child, but for the family as well.

Huntington Learning Center provides instruction in reading, spelling, writing, phonics, mathematics, and study skills, as well as SAT and ACT preparation for students from kindergarten to 12th grade. To sign up your child, contact Sutcliffe at 873-4565 or [email protected].
