Town of Niagara Police Blotter for May 5, 2011

The following is a sampling of calls reported by the Town of Niagara Police between April 15 and 22.

Friday, April 15

•2500 block of Military Road, aid assist. Officer assisted Rural Metro Ambulance with a sick person at a fast food restaurant.

•8500 block of Porter Road, animal complaint. Patrol responded on a report of a squirrel with its head stuck in the side of a building. SPCA called, but was unable to free the animal before it died. Patrol notified the caller to have the management get the dead squirrel from the trap they set and that the SPCA would be looking into the issue.

•Licata Drive, Sabre Park, larceny. Resident reported someone stole the black grill cover from a grill outside his residence.

Saturday, April 16

•4200 block of Military Road, accident. Driver attempting to back into a spot in a parking lot struck a parked vehicle shattering its mirror and causing driver's side body damage.

•Tuscarora Road, accident. Driver was crossing the Tuscarora Road bridge when a fox ran into his lane. He said he hit his brakes to avoid the animal and a driver behind him rear-ended his vehicle.

Sunday, April 17

•3500 block of Miller Road, larceny. Resident said someone entered his unlocked vehicle in his driveway and removed two sets of house keys for his cabin.

•4200 block of Military Road, shoplifting. Store manager reported a woman put numerous items, with a total value of $78.42 in her purse without paying for them. The manager confronted the woman in the parking lot and retrieved the items, but she ran away, jumped into a vehicle and left the area. Suspect has been spotted in the store in the past.

•4700 block of Tuscarora Road, check situation. Father said he spanked his son for flushing the toilet while his younger brother was in the shower, causing hot water to fall on his brother. Patrol advised the man that striking his child was discouraged.

Monday, April 18

•8000 block of Crestview Drive, identity theft. Victim reported unauthorized creation of a bank credit card account.

•1500 block of Military Road. Patrol assisted Niagara Falls Police with a bank robbery inside the main store of a business.

•Packard and Porter roads, animal complaint. Patrol secured a loose dog until SPCA arrived.

Tuesday, April 19

•3100 block of Saunders Settlement Road, aid assist. Patrol assisted Niagara County Sheriff's Office with a possible intoxicated driver.

•Military Road at Fourth Avenue, check situation. Caller reported hearing what sounded like two shots being fired from behind the cinema area. Officers checked area extensively with negative results.

Wednesday, April 20

•7600 block of St. Joseph Drive, suspicious vehicle. A tan Taurus was reported in a driveway. Vehicle left before patrol's arrival.

•3100 block of Bellreng Drive, assault. Man reported being assaulted in an apartment complex parking lot by a 24-year-old man from Lewiston during an argument over the complainant's ex-girlfriend. Lewiston man was charged with assault, third degree.

Thursday, April 21

•3000 block of Petroleum Avenue, check situation. Complainant said kids in the neighborhood were throwing rocks and they were all over his yard. Patrol had the kids pick up the rocks.

•4500 block of Liberty Avenue, check situation. Complainant said her mailbox was leaning and it looked as if it had been pushed over. Patrol straightened the mailbox and didn't find any damage.

•1800 block of Fashion Outlet Boulevard, larceny. Patrol was told that a barmaid put $500 cash in a locked box inside a locked closet before closing the building and that the money was later found to be missing.

•5200 block of Isherwood Drive, burglary. Patrol was flagged down by a resident who stated she saw a man exit her neighbor's residence carrying a coin bank and walk across her yard. The man broke the bank in the street and fled to a red car with a loud exhaust and Texas license plate that was occupied by another man. When she asked what they were doing, they said they were from Just Energy. Patrol talked to her neighbor who said he had filled out forms about lowering his energy bills for Just Energy representatives and didn't know about his bank until alerted by his neighbor. The bank reportedly contained about $100.

•4800 block of Isherwood Drive, suspicious person. Complainant said he had heard about the earlier burglary on Isherwood and was concerned because he also had filled out forms for Just Energy. Description of the men matched earlier reports.

Friday, April 22

•1600 block of Jane Drive, assist fire department. Patrol assisted Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Fire Department on a stove fire call.

•1900 Military Road, property missing. A Buffalo woman reported that a woman in a black Charger drove her to a gas station when her car ran out of gas. When they returned, she got out of the Charger, but forgot her purse and keys until the Charger drove away.
