Town of Niagara Police Blotter for March 31, 2011

The following is a sampling of the calls the Town of Niagara Police responded to between March 14 and 20. During that week 143 incidents were investigated.

Monday, March 14

•Hyde Park Boulevard, accident. A driver northbound on Hyde Park Boulevard approaching Witmer Road said she became distracted by the baby crying and left the roadway, striking a light pole, then proceeded through the intersection and struck a building.

•Porter Road, traffic tickets. Patrol issued traffic tickets to a 32-year-old Expressway Village resident, including one for driving with a suspended license.

•7100 block of Lockport Road, traffic ticket. Patrol observed a driver in the Town Court parking lot throw a bag of garbage out of his window. The driver admitted he had done it and said he didn't "know what the big deal was."

Tuesday,  March 15

•3000 block of Hyde Park Boulevard, assist citizen. Complainant said he received a letter from a bank informing him they could not complete his request for information on a past debt for a student loan, because no such loan existed. Complainant said he did not make any request and was not a customer of that bank.

•1500 block of Military Road, disturbance. Patrol was issuing a parking ticket when a 26-year-old Ontario man and his mother-in-law began verbally abusing him. The suspect got out of the vehicle, swore at the officer and said "Just give me the ticket." He was arrested for disorderly conduct. A witness to the incident, a deputy chief from the Niagara Falls Police Department stood by to keep the mother-in-law away from the officer.

•I-190 north off ramp at Packard Road, driving while intoxicated. A 35-year-old Ontario Avenue man was found slumped over his steering wheel and appeared to be unconscious. He was charged with DWI and his vehicle was put on a 12-hour hold.

Wednesday, March 16

•Effie Drive and Tuscarora Road, traffic tickets. Patrol issued tickets to two drivers for stop sign violations.

•2400 block of Military Road, domestic. A Ninth Street Niagara Falls woman reported her boyfriend picked her up from work, started an argument, then pulled into a business parking lot. Fearing for her safety, she jumped out and ran. He ran after her and dragged her toward another business where he punched her in the face and took her purse, then drove off without her. Patrol was to seek a warrant for the arrest of the 31-year-old male.

•4700 block of Fox Avenue, 911 call. Patrol checked with the homeowner who said she was having phone problems.

Thursday, March 17

•3200 block of Bellreng Avenue, check situation. Caller reported a small child screaming and that the parent couldn't be reached. Mother told patrol her daughter always screams when put in the playpen.

•9400 block of Porter Road, burglary. Owner said equipment was missing and rooms vandalized. Total value of computer equipment, uniforms and furniture was estimated at $5,000.

•1500 block of Military Road, traffic violations. Patrol stopped a vehicle with excessively tinted windows. Driver found to have a suspended license.

Friday, March 18

•Military Road, traffic violations. Patrol stopped a 41-year-old woman, a 13th Street, Niagara Falls, resident for driving while using a cell phone. License check came back as suspended for failure to pay child support.

•Lockport Road, reckless driving. Patrol observed a vehicle make a right turn from Miller Road to Lockport Road, cross the lane marker and jerk back. The car sped up to 65 mph, then slowed to a stop, sped up to 55 mph and came to a complete stop. Elderly driver said he did not think he should be driving.

•Military Road, accident. Driver said he was trying to figure out his GPS and didn't see traffic stop in front of him. His vehicle struck another vehicle stopped for the light.

Saturday, March 19

•1900 block of Military Road, vandalism. A woman reported someone smashed the front passenger window on her vehicle and stole her purse.

•Tuscarora Road near Richmond Avenue, fire. Patrol responded for a report of a fire in a field. Niagara Active Volunteer Fire Co. was called to extinguish the fire.

•6500 block of Grauer Road, check situation. Complainant said she heard a loud banging noise at her home and when her husband went out to check, he saw two juveniles running down the street.

Sunday, March 20

•2700 block of Military Road, assist citizen. Business owner said customers reported two employees were smoking marijuana in a vehicle in the lot.

•4700 block of Liberty Avenue, animal complaint. Resident reported he found a black labrador retriever with no tags in his back yard. SPCA notified.

•8600 block of Lockport Road, EMS call. Patrol responded to a parking lot for a 33-year-old woman, possibly in labor. Rural Metro Ambulance and Niagara Active were on the scene.
