The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center has announced the launch of the NACC rehearsal space program, made possible by a generous grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). This initiative aims to provide affordable rehearsal spaces to performing artists in the local community to foster a more vibrant artistic landscape.

Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. April 2. The cost is $5 per hour for any rehearsal space, on a first-come, first-served basis. Five spaces are available from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Any and all performers (musicians, actors, dancers, mimes, marching bands, singers, etc.) can apply for rehearsal space.

The NACC rehearsal space program is designed to address the financial challenges faced by performing artists with limited resources. By offering subsidized rehearsal spaces, the program aims to support both established groups and emerging talent. It aims to foster creativity, nurture artistic excellence, and cultivate a vibrant and inclusive cultural landscape.

The program covers up to 95% of the rental costs for performers who are looking to perfect their art. The spaces will also be available for longer times each day, with extended hours from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. to allow for increased scheduling flexibility.

The NACC will be offering this flexible and affordable access to five diverse rehearsal spaces. Each rehearsal space features unique amenities including: a dance studio with full mirrors, a classroom with Wi-Fi, a formal theater stage with grand piano, and even the former high school gym that can accommodate large dance troops or marching bands.

Images of the spaces can be found on the NACC’s website, or one may tour the building spaces by making an appointment with NACC Gallery Co-Director and Rental Coordinator Dana Tyrrell, who will oversee the implementation of the new program.

Any artist or group in need of rehearsal space is eligible to take advantage of this opportunity for up to 100 hours of rehearsal time between now and Dec. 31.

“We are thrilled to launch the NACC rehearsal space program,” said Kevin Leary, NACC executive director. “Vibrant arts ecosystems need accessible spaces dedicated to the exploration of artistic practice. We look forward to providing space for that creative exploration to WNY artists.”
