Chalk up another $1,600 for Heart, Love and Soul, thanks to the athletic acumen of Niagara University's president, the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M.
Maher presented a check Wednesday afternoon to Sister Beth Brosmer, executive director of the Niagara Falls-based food pantry and dining room (pictured). The funds were generated in support of Maher's participation in the 119th annual YMCA Turkey Trot in Buffalo on Thanksgiving.
The $1,600 matched the amount raised from the first-ever "Run Against Hunger" at Niagara University in April, an event instituted by Maher during the week of his presidential inauguration.
Since 1982, Heart, Love and Soul has served as a dining room, a food pantry, and a center for health assistance and social services for individuals experiencing difficult economic situations.
Heart, Love and Soul and Niagara University signed a partnership agreement in 2009 to better aid those in the local community. The agreement provides Niagara students and staff with opportunities for service learning and strengthens the resources available to Heart, Love and Soul and its guests.
