Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for July 20, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 218 calls the week of this report. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 10 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, June 30

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had broken down.

•East Park Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that some youths were throwing bottles at passing cars. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youths.

•East River Road, disorderly person - A complainant stated that a subject was attempting to get into her house. Deputies located the subject, who was intoxicated and did not know he was at the wrong address.

•Bedell Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that someone damaged his vehicle sometime during the night.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that while she was at an amusement park, someone stole some belongings from a locker. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disorderly person - Deputies assisted security at an amusement park in removing a disorderly male from the park. The male left without incident.

•Ferry Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants, and the call appeared to be a misdial.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disorderly person - Employees at a campground stated there was a male on the premises who was asked to leave. Deputies located the male, a 39-year-old man from Grand Island, stumbling down Grand Island Boulevard and arrested him for disorderly conduct. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Huth Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were setting off fireworks in the area. Deputies located the youths, who were advised and turned over to their parents.

•East River Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a bar in the area. Deputies advised the owner of the bar to turn down the music.

Sunday, July 1

•Grand Island Boulevard, disturbance - A complainant stated she saw people fighting outside of a tavern late at night. Deputies located some of the subjects involved, who were unwilling to cooperate with patrol. All parties were advised.

•Baseline Road, water break - Deputies responded to a report of a water main break flooding the roadway. The water department was notified.

•West Oakfield Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that someone broke the window to his vehicle sometime during the night. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•East River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole money from her vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees at an amusement park stated that they caught a couple youths stealing from a cash register. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of two juvenile offenders for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor). The juvenile offenders were issued appearance tickets returnable to Erie County Family Court.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, while she was at an amusement park, someone stole various items from her vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Carl Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several youths were on the playground setting off fireworks. Deputies located the youths and turned them over to their parents.

•East River Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated he saw a suspicious male in a dark-colored hoodie walking late at night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

Monday, July 2

•Sunset Drive, larceny - Deputies responded to a report of a male and a female disturbance on Sunset Drive. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man from Grand Island for multiple counts of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after deputies located numerous vehicles in the area that had been stolen from. The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment in Town of Grand Island Court. Further charges are pending.

•Bedell Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his work truck. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Love Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he could smell marijuana emanating from the hallway of his apartment complex. Deputies checked but were unable to locate anything unusual.

•Center Terrace, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the parking lot of the complex. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects with fireworks.

•East River Road, ATV operation - A complainant stated an all-terrain vehicle was seen driving up and down the street. Deputies located the ATV and advised the driver.

•East River Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a large snapping turtle was in the roadway. Deputies located the turtle and removed the animal from the roadway unharmed.

Tuesday, July 3

•Bedell Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that vehicles were unlawfully parked in handicap spaces in an apartment complex. Deputies located a vehicle in violation of the law and issued a summons.

•Winkler Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a vehicle parked on the street had a "bong" inside. Deputies located the vehicle, but it was unoccupied at the time.

•West Park Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that a known person damaged his vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Town Hall Terrace, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle was in an apartment complex. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Webb Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated he found a bag of hypodermic needles on the street. Deputies removed the needles and disposed them.

•Second Street, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call appeared to be a mistake.

•Riverdale Drive, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects with fireworks.

•Greenway Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects with fireworks.

Wednesday, July 4

•Fix Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, dog loose - A complainant stated she found a loose dog in an apartment complex. The dog control officer was notified.

•East River Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated someone damaged her barn in an attempt to break in. Damage was done, but no entry was made. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Whitehaven Road, disorderly person - Employees of a gas station/convenience store stated that a subject appeared intoxicated and was giving employees a hard time. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Bedell Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked and located subjects playing with model rockets.

•Stony Point Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects with fireworks.

•West River Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects with fireworks.

•Bedell Road, criminal mischief - A complainant stated someone drove a moped into the weeds behind an apartment complex. Deputies helped the complainant retrieve the moped, which had minor damage.

•East Park Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked but were unable to locate any subjects with fireworks.

•Love Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked and located several subjects in possession of fireworks. The subjects cleaned up the debris and were advised. The fireworks were confiscated and sent to be destroyed by the Erie County Sheriffs Office Bomb Squad.

•Bedell Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated someone was setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Deputies checked and located several subjects in possession of fireworks. Thursday, July 5

•Ransom Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was seen swerving in the roadway. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Whitehaven Road, road obstruction - Deputies responded to a report of 2x4s laying in the roadway. Deputies removed the debris.

•East River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that someone stole kayaks from his yard at an unknown time. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Huth Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was seen swerving in the roadway. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

•Bonnywoods Circle, ATV operation - A complainant stated an ATV was seen driving up and down the street. Deputies located the ATV and advised the driver.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious person - Deputies located two subjects walking around a vehicle late at night. The subjects had recently purchased the vehicle from the owner and were attempting to tow the vehicle.

•East River Road, suspicious person - Deputies located two subjects at Fisherman's Landing late at night. The subjects were advised and left without incident.

Friday, July 6

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an unoccupied vehicle in an amusement park late at night.

•Riverdale Drive, animal loose - A complainant stated a loose dog was running around the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Bedell Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle was parked along Bedell Road. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious female was seen walking on Grand Island Boulevard. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the female.

•Stony Point Road, burglary - A complainant stated that someone broke into his garage during the recent days and stole various items. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•I-190, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident that struck the Grand Island Bridge. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, person down - Deputies located a subject down in a parking lot. The subject was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.
