Lewiston Public Library July programs, events and activities

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of July.

The library announces a blood drive will be held Monday, July 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. Family programs for the month include:

•A summer reading kickoff concert with Glenn Colton on Monday, July 9, at 6 p.m. Participants should arrive early to fill out registration packet as the concert will begin at 6.

•Wondermakers Dream On - Monday, July 16, at 6 p.m.

•Charlie and Checkers - Monday, July 23, at 6 p.m.

•Cosmic Adventures Traveling Planetarium - Monday, July 30, at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. The library reports there's a limit of 25 to 30 participants each session.

•Computer classes include: Introduction to LinkedIn, Thursday, July 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Introduction to Twitter, Tuesday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required for all computer classes.

Clubs and More

•The Lewiston Book Club will meet on Tuesday, July 3, at 1:30 p.m. For further information, contact Anita Mallimo at 716-754-7714.

The Dead Beats Society will meet Friday, July 6, at 1 p.m. in the Local History Room.

•Personal instructional genealogy appointments are available on Wednesdays from noon to 5 p.m. Call the library, 716-754-4720, to arrange an appointment or email Michelle Kratts at [email protected].

•The Lewiston Writers' Group meets on Mondays, July 9, and July 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library.

•The Parachute Group will meet on Tuesday, July 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The session provides a venue for networking, sharing contacts, ideas for best practices for the job search, and guest presenters on topics of interest to the group. The group's meeting is unaffiliated with any organization and is free and open to the public.

•Moms Book Chat, a book discussion group for moms will meet Thursday, July 26, at 7 p.m. Discussed will be "In the Mad Water," by T.W. Kriner.

•The Knitting Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required and knitters of all skill levels are welcome.

•The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library maintain a Used Book Room all year long; it's open during library hours. Items for sale include fiction, non-fiction, and children's materials.

July meetings for the month include the Lewiston Library Board of Trustees, Monday, July 2, at 5 p.m.; and Friends of the Library, Tuesday, July 10, at 6 p.m.

•Story Hour with Mrs. Leardini - Thursdays, July 12, 19 and 26, at 10:30 a.m.

•Follow your dreams, ages 4 and up - Tuesday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m.

•Good night, sleep tight, ages 1 to 3 - Wednesday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m.

•New York State Parks department presents Bats at the Library, for ages 4 and up - Tuesday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m.

•Sleepy, oh so sleepy, ages 1 to 3 - Wednesday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m.

•Starry night, a library treasure hunt, ages 4 and up - Tuesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m.

•Tail Waggin' Tutors sessions will take place Wednesday, July 11, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday, July 17, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, July 18, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday, July 24, at 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, July 25, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, July 31, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Library hours: Monday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m. The Lewiston Public Library is closed on Saturdays over the summer (through Sept. 8).

The library also will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
