Assemblyman John Ceretto supported legislation Monday to protect victims by prohibiting cyberbullying in New York public schools.

"Cyberbullying is becoming an alarming danger to children and teenagers today," Ceretto said. "This is an issue I take very seriously. During this legislative session, I was honored to meet with students from Niagara Falls High School and one of their teachers, Mr. Esposito, to discuss bullying and their 'Increase the Peace' initiative. Our students and their parents must know that New York state is working to ensure that the Internet is not simply another vehicle for bullies. I am proud to vote for this legislation."

Ceretto also noted a National Conference of State Legislatures study showing that 48 other states have already enacted legislation to protect children from bullying.

"This is affecting our teens and young people every day," Ceretto said. "We can't sit on the sidelines while children are being put at risk for something we should be able to prevent. Other states have taken steps to protect their youth; now it is New York's turn."
