The Town of Lewiston Republican Committee reports incumbent Ernest K. Krell has announced his candidacy for re-election to Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees. It also announces its endorsement of newcomer Nicholas Conde for election to the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees. The election is Tuesday, June 19.

Krell seeks re-election

"Today, I am formally announcing my intention to run for re-election to the office of Village of Lewiston trustee," said Krell. "In the past two years, my fellow board members and I have accomplished many things. We found ways to gain much-needed parking space at both Academy Park and the Lewiston Landing, without sacrificing the charm of our village. We have also added the new Welcome Center at the park, which will greet our visitors as they come to visit the most beautiful and historic village in all of New York state.

"But the thing that I am most proud of is the fact that we have not increased our property taxes by a single cent this year. Instead, we found different ways to continue to provide the many services our residents enjoy while still being able to balance the village budget every year."

After retiring from the Carborundum Company, Krell joined Industrial Consultants as vice president.

"Being a mechanical engineer and architect, I formed and operated OK Design and Ernest K. Krell Associates. So as a small business owner myself, I have firsthand knowledge of their needs and I realize their importance to our village," he said.

"I faithfully served my country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War, and I am a member of VFW Post 7487. I have held several offices, including post commander, and currently as quartermaster," Krell adds.

"In my opinion, public service and community service are one in the same, and because of that I have always been very actively involved in our community," he said. "I am a 32-year member of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, and have held the posts of president, Peach Festival chairman, and district lieutenant governor. I am also a member of Niagara Moose Lodge 584, the Niagara Falls Old Timers Sports Hall of Fame, and a former leader of Boy Scout Troop 22.

"The future of our village is important to me for several reasons, not the least of which is that my wife of 51 years, the former Patricia O'Donnell, and I have six children, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. I want to keep Lewiston the quaint and wonderful place that it is, while always looking for ways to enhance the quality of life for our children and theirs, too.

"As a village trustee, I have had the privilege of helping to make the Village of Lewiston the special place that it is. I am respectfully asking for your support and your vote on Tuesday, June 19, so that we can continue to work together for an even brighter future for our village."

GOP endorses Conde

The Lewiston Republican Committee has announced its endorsement of Conde for the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees.

In its endorsement, the committee noted Conde's experience in the private sector, as a small business owner, and his familiarity with the issues important to village residents and businesses.

GOP Chairman Rob Nichols offered that Conde's well-rounded background makes him a strong candidate worthy of consideration by all village residents.

"I am excited by what Nick can bring to the current team on the Village Board and I am confident he will represent the taxpayers' interests with great care and concern," Nichols stated.

Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Conde chose to make the village his home, where he has resided for almost 30 years with his wife Debbie and their son, Nicholas.

Conde started his career earning his associates degree from Niagara County Community College, where he became a skilled draftsman. He is currently employed by M.J. Mechanical as a project coordinator. He is an integral part in managing the design and installation of commercial, industrial and institutional HVAC systems.

Using his professional skills in New York state building codes compliance, Conde volunteered his time for 10 years as member of the Village of Lewiston Zoning Board.

He and Debbie also can be found helping regularly at the village's annual Spring Fling events. Conde has passed on this sense of community service to his son, who joined Lewiston No. 1 Volunteer Fire Co. while still in high school.

Conde has also successfully owned and operated a small business for the past 10 years. His company, Bounce-N-Around Inc., can be found practically every weekend providing inflatable bounce room rentals as entertainment for children's parties.

When asked why he decided to seek political office, Conde said, "I want to help maintain and ensure the quality of life that Lewiston residents have come to expect. I am hopeful that I can translate my knowledge and experience in such a way to help manage the village so that it can continue to be one of the most proudly talked about little communities in Western New York."
