Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for June 1, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office reports its officers responded to 422 calls from May 12 to May 25. Below is a sampling of incidents the ECSO reported to the Island Dispatch.

Deputies responded to 36 burglary false alarms for the dates of this report.

Saturday, May 12

•Lakeview Terrace, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and the call appeared to be a mistake.

•West River Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located an individual sleeping in his car during the late hours of the night. The subject was advised.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that an unknown person was struck by a vehicle while in a gas station parking lot. Prior to the arrival of patrol, all parties involved had left the scene. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate any involved persons.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Greenway Road, animal bite - A complainant stated that she was bitten by a neighborhood dog. Deputies notified the dog control officer.

•Whitehaven Road, trespass - A complainant stated that several subjects were fishing in the area of a marina. Deputies located the subjects and escorted them off the property. No charges were filed.

•East Park Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that an unknown person or persons placed a road cone on his vehicle sometime during the night.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked in an amusement park parking lot during the late evening hours. The owner of the vehicle was located and advised.

•Laurie Lane, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from a house in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source and advised the occupants.

•LaSalle Avenue, disorderly person - A complainant stated that there was a loud argument in the street during the late hours of the night. Deputies located two individuals involved and advised them.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist who had a flat tire.

Sunday, May 13

•Webb Road, larceny - A complainant stated that he observed a male subject in all dark clothes attempting to steal items from his vehicle. The complainant attempted to pursue the subject but lost sight of him. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate any subjects. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees at a supermarket stated that a known individual was observed stealing items from the store. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man from Alden for petit larceny. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Jamestown Road, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle - A complainant stated that sometime during the night someone stole his vehicle. The complainant located the vehicle in the neighborhood, but various items were missing. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•South State Parkway, injury accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with seemingly minor injuries.

•Pin Oak Circle, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious-looking male was seen at a residential construction site. Deputies located the male subject and advised him.

•East River Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, reckless operation - Deputies responded to a report of reckless operation by a motor vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

Monday, May 14

•Baseline Road, reckless operation - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle travelling unusually slowly and swerving on the roadway. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Tuesday, May 15

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was seen in the area of a marina. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call appeared to be a mistake.

•East River Road, disorderly person - While deputies were assisting United States Border Patrol agents, they arrested a Grand Island man for disorderly conduct after the male was screaming obscenities at the incident scene. The male was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Buckhorn State Park, assault - Deputies responded to a report of an assault that had taken place in Buckhorn State Park. Their investigation led to the arrest of a man from Grand Island for assault in the third degree (a class A misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

Wednesday, May 16

•Alt Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle in the area of Alt Boulevard. A check of the vehicles license plates showed that the plates had been reported stolen. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 40-year-old woman from Grand Island for criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree (a class A misdemeanor). The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•East River Road, larceny - Numerous neighbors of East River Road reported that various items had been stolen from vehicles sometime during the night. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Wallace Drive, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked on Wallace Drive. Deputies located the vehicle and the owner, who was visiting a friend.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a school bus was seen in a cemetery on Whitehaven Road. Deputies checked, but were unable to locate the school bus.

•Baseline Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle that struck a deer. No injuries were reported.

Thursday, May 17

•East Park Road, assist person - A complainant stated that a refrigerator was taken to the curb for garbage collection, but the owner did not remove the doors. The complainant was concerned a child might hurt himself. Deputies were unable to contact the owner but were assisted by a Good Samaritan in removing the doors.

•Bedell Road, welfare check - A complainant stated that a neighbor in the apartment building was screaming for about an hour. Deputies spoke to the individual, who was playing his music loudly.

•East River Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call appeared to be a mistake.

•Bush Road, suspicious person - Deputies located two males walking late at night. The subjects were advised.

•East River Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a male and a female under the South Grand Island Bridge late at night. Both subjects were advised.

Friday, May 18

•Stony Point Road, suspicious person - Deputies located a male running late at night. The subject was exercising.

•Grand Island Boulevard, narcotics arrest - Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in a supermarket. Deputies located the subject sleeping in the restroom. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man from Grand Island for disorderly conduct, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor) and a public health law violation. The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Whitehaven Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire down on Whitehaven Road. Deputies located the wire and notified National Grid.

•South State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that the driver of a vehicle was seen drinking beer while operating a motor vehicle. Deputies checked, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•East River Road, suspicious person - Deputies located two male subjects at Fisherman's Landing late at night. The subjects were advised.

Saturday, May 19

•Carter Drive, suspicious person - Deputies located a subject walking around cars late at night. The subject was advised.

•Pleasant Trail, suspicious person - Deputies located three subjects walking late at night. Deputies' investigation led to arrest of a juvenile offender for unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21. The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court.

•Crescent Road, suspicious incident - Deputies located a vehicle with its dome light on late at night. The dome light appeared to be an oversight.

•Baseline Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle in a closed business. The owner of the vehicle was located and advised.

•Oakridge Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that sometime during the night, someone stole various items from his vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Stony Point Road, property found - A complainant stated that she found a bicycle near her house. The owner was found and given his bicycle back.

•Bedell Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that vehicles were illegally parked in Veterans Park. Deputies checked, but were unable to locate any violators.

•Baseline Road, property found - A complainant said she found various credit cards and a driver's license in the roadway. The property was turned over to the Erie County Sheriff's Office, and the owner was notified.

•North Colony Road, residential burglary - A complainant that sometime in recent days, an unknown person broke into his garage and stole various items. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Ward Park Road, all-terrain vehicle operation - A complainant stated a younger male was seen riding an all-terrain vehicle on the street with no helmet on. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate the subject.

•Stony Point Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that subjects were seen jumping off of a roof into a residential pool. Deputies located the subjects and advised them.

•East River Road, reckless operation - A complainant said that a car was seen speeding on East River Road. Deputies located the vehicle and advised the driver.

•Carl Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Sunday, May 20

•Bedell Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked in Veterans Park late at night. The vehicle was unoccupied.

•Alt Boulevard, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a motorcycle was racing on the street. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the motorcycle.

•Ward Park Road, youth activity - A complainant said that several youths were seen throwing toilet paper in the woods. Deputies located the youths and advised them.

•Sandy Beach Road, fight - A complainant said that several people were fighting in the street. Deputies located the subjects involved, and neither wished to press charges. No injuries were reported and the subjects were advised.

•Second Street drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of a reckless operation complaint. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The driver refused to submit a sample of his breathe for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

Monday May 21

•Pleasant Trail, youth activity - A complainant stated that youths were playing basketball on the street during the late hours of the night. Deputies located the subjects and advised them.

•Ransom Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•I-190, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Winter Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call appeared to be a mistake.

•Love Road, larceny - Employees at a supermarket stated that a female subject had stolen some alcohol from the store. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Tuesday, May 22

•East River Road, trespass - A complainant stated that a subject was trespassing on the property of a marina. The subject was asked not to return by employees, but did. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•East River Road, injury accident - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that struck a bicyclist. The bicyclist was transported to Erie County Medical Center for his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was cited.

•Steeg Road, larceny - A complainant stated that sometime during the recent days an unknown person stole various items from his vehicle. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant that a vehicle was seen under the Grand Island Bridge with a person unloading items from the vehicle. Deputies located the individual, who was fishing, and advised him.

•Windham Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he could hear construction equipment running late at night. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate construction equipment being operated.

•West River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that sometime during the night an unknown person stole various items from her vehicle by smashing her car window. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Wednesday, May 23

•Whitehaven Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that she saw a loose dog in the neighborhood. Deputies were unable to locate the dog. The dog control officer was notified.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two male subjects were going door to door and soliciting for a business. The complainant thought they were acting in a strange manner. Deputies located the subjects, who produced a peddler's permit.

•Huth Road, injury accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident with injury. One subject was transported to the hospital with seemingly minor injuries.

•Elsie Lane, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Thursday, May 24

•Huth Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in front of her house late at night. The vehicle left prior to the arrival of deputies.

•Fix Road, larceny - A complainant stated that an unknown person stole a canoe from the side of his house sometime during recent days. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Park Lane, road obstruction - A complainant stated a construction company had put a large stone pile in the roadway. Deputies advised the construction workers to remove the stone.

•Bedell Road, larceny - A complainant stated that an unknown person stole shoes from the hallway of her apartment building.

•Ransom Road, suspicious vehicle - Employees of a gas station/convenience store stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked outside the store. The vehicle left prior to arrival of deputies.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Revere Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that several cars were racing down the street. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the vehicles.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two subjects were seen behind Sidway Elementary School late at night. Deputies located the subjects and advised them.

Friday, May 25

•West River Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that two lawn mowers were seen racing down the road. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the lawn mowers.

•East River Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that she saw a loose dog in the neighborhood. Deputies were unable to locate the dog. The dog control officer was notified.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that two manhole covers were missing from a private business lot.
