'The Hunger Games': A second opinion

The new hit movie "The Hunger Games" is based on a series of novels by Suzanne Collins. The movie is set in a futuristic world in the nation of Panem. Panem consists of 13 districts and an evil Capital. The Capital forces what was once North America to send a teenage girl and boy to compete in the "Hunger Games." These games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" (the boy and girl) will fight one another till only one person remains in a large arena.

In District 12, a young girl named Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, awaits the time for the names to be drawn. When the time comes, Effie Trinket (the person drawing the names) reaches in the girl's bowl first and draws Prim's name. Prim is Katniss's little sister who just turned 12 years old, making her old enough to compete. Upon hearing this Katniss volunteers to replace her sister and is pulled onto the stage. The boy's name is Peeta Mellark played by Josh Hutcherson. The two selected individuals then get shipped to the Capital and the games begin.

The actors and actresses selected to participate in this movie have made great strides and produced a fairly good movie. Since this movie is based off a novel, it is hard, however, to not compare this phenomenon to "Twilight." The theatrics and the acting were good in this movie, and overall it was very much appreciated that the trailers prior to the showing of the movie did not show a lot, which left more to the imagination. The cast, overall, is fairly young, and the director played to a younger audience by trimming down the movie to be appropriate for a larger audience.

I personally felt as though the movie could have showed more detail. While taking into account a younger audience, it seems fairly impossible to please every member of an audience.

After hearing that the director will no longer be producing the sequel, perhaps a new director can bring the next movie to a new level and show off the great story by Suzanne Collins?
